Summary of Changes

  • Addresses Issue: Fixes RUSTSEC-2026-0381: Bundled root certificates allow trust in distrusted emSign intermediates #892 (RUSTSEC-2026-0381: Bundled root certificates allow trust in distrusted emSign intermediates)
  • Root Cause: webpki-roots version 0.25.4 bundles emSign ECC Root CA - G3, which allows certificate paths through distrusted emSign intermediate public keys whose private keys are well known.
  • Resolution:
    • Replaced rustls-tls / rustls-tls-webpki-roots feature flags with rustls-tls-native-roots in sdk/rust/Cargo.toml for both reqwest and tokio-tungstenite.
    • Completely eliminated webpki-roots 0.25.4 from Cargo.lock across the entire workspace.
    • Verified with cargo audit: advisory RUSTSEC-2026-0381 is completely resolved.

Test & Verification Evidence

  • cargo check --workspace: Passed (0 errors, 0 warnings).
  • cargo test -p trident-sdk: 25 unit tests + 6 doc-tests passed (31 passed, 0 failed).
  • cargo test -p trident-api -p trident-backfill: 26 tests passed (26 passed, 0 failed).
  • cargo audit: webpki-roots vulnerability RUSTSEC-2026-0381 no longer present.
