fix(playlists): add to playlist picker should only show playlists with write permissions - #547
The Add to playlist picker lists every playlist in the signed-in user's library, including playlists saved from other people where the user has no write permission. YouTube (correctly) doesn't allow adding songs to these playlists the user doesn't have permissions on, which fails with a confusing toast: "Stopped adding songs because the account changed." The account didn't change.
The picker only leaves out On Repeat and Liked Music. The library list it loads doesn't say who owns each playlist, so the picker had no way to tell which ones the user has permission to add to. That information is only on each playlist's own page (owned and collaborative in PlaylistPage).
Upon investigation by Claude, it seems that toast message corresponds to (selection.account_changed) - shown when the account counter (auth.epoch) changes during an add. So it looks like the failed add somehow bumps that counter. might be worth a separate look.
Fix
The picker now sorts library playlists in two steps:
Initial filter pass: filters down to playlists stored on this device, and playlists that pass the existing ownedByUser check. No network request is needed for these. On Repeat and Liked Music are still left out.
Second pass: For every playlist not ownedByUser, the app loads that playlist's page (getPlaylist), which shows (owned) or (collaborative). If either is true, the playlist is added back to the list. Playlists saved from other people fail this check and never appear.
To keep this fast:
At most two playlist pages are loaded at a time.
Each result is cached for the rest of the session, so reopening the picker doesn't load them again. The cache is cleared when switching accounts, and a failed request is retried next time.
Usually only the few playlists saved from others need a request; owned ones pass step 1.
The code is two new functions in player.svelte.ts, next to ownedByUser: playlistTakesSongs (step 1) and askPlaylistTakesSongs (step 2). AddToPlaylist.svelte calls them, showing step 1's playlists immediately and adding step 2's as their checks finish, in library order.
The first time opening the playlist picker in a session, a collaborative playlist might appear a moment after the others, once its page has loaded.
Verification
cd ui && pnpm check: 0 errors, 0 warnings.
Built this branch on Fedora 44 (KDE, Wayland), signed in with an account that has its own playlists, playlists saved from other people, and a collaborative playlist. The picker listed my own playlists and the collaborative one, and none of the playlists saved from other people. Adding a song to the collaborative playlist worked.
The same check has also been running in my fork (YTMinamp), in its own add-to-playlist menus, with the same results.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
The “Add to Playlist” picker now shows playlists that can accept songs. Playlists requiring verification are checked before appearing, helping ensure songs can be added to the selected playlist.
On Repeat and Liked Music are excluded from the picker.
Add to playlist listed every playlist in the library, including ones saved from other people, which YouTube refuses songs into. It now lists this machine's playlists and your own (ownedByUser) at once, and any other once its page says it takes songs: owned, or collaborative, which covers a playlist you were added to and one you own with collaboration on (that one has no edit header). The pages are asked two at a time and remembered for the session, cleared with the account.

Walkthrough
The Add to Playlist picker now filters out playlists that do not accept songs. The player checks playlist eligibility, caches asynchronous checks, limits concurrent page checks, and clears the cache when the account changes.
The player accepts local and user-owned playlists, rejects On Repeat and Liked Music, and checks other playlist pages for owned or collaborative status. It caches results, limits concurrent checks to two, and clears cached checks when the account changes.
Filter the picker list ui/src/lib/components/AddToPlaylist.svelte
The picker displays playlists that pass the eligibility checks. It applies asynchronous results only to the current picker opening and keeps library order.

Explanation
The title names the main change: the Add to playlist picker is restricted to playlists the user can write to. The changeset adds playlistTakesSongs and askPlaylistTakesSongs, and the picker filters on them. The title uses the fix(playlists) prefix and stays under 100 characters. The 88-character length is long but still readable, and the title does not describe any unrelated change.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
All changes at head serve the picker filter in #546. AddToPlaylist.svelte changes the picker's playlist list and its loading flow. player.svelte.ts gains the two playlist-acceptance helpers, and resetLibraryForAccount clears their cache on account switch. The PR description lists no other functional change. The second commit changes comment wording only. The 'account changed' toast and auth.epoch behavior are noted as a possible separate investigation. The PR makes no code change to them, so they are not out-of-scope changes. The changes to player.svelte.ts were only partly read, but the summary and the verified hunks show no unrelated edits.

Explanation
Issue #546 requires the Add to playlist picker to list only the user's own playlists or playlists where the user is a contributor. Verified at head: AddToPlaylist.svelte now builds the picker list from playlistTakesSongs (immediate pass) and askPlaylistTakesSongs (asynchronous pass). It shows a playlist only when one of these checks returns true. Stale results are dropped using the opening counter opens. In player.svelte.ts, resetLibraryForAccount calls takesSongs.clear(), so the cache resets on account change. The bodies of playlistTakesSongs and askPlaylistTakesSongs were not read. The file read at head was truncated at 16000 bytes before those functions, and the player.svelte.ts diff was unavailable. The filter logic therefore rests on the PR description and the AI-generated summary. Those state that owned and collaborative from the playlist page gate the second pass, that the page requests are limited to two, and that failures return false. The author's manual Fedora test also reports that saved playlists were excluded and a collaborative playlist was listed. The declaration of takesSongs was also not seen. No coding requirement is unmet on the evidence seen, but the core check is unverified in source.
Resolution
Provide the source of playlistTakesSongs and askPlaylistTakesSongs in ui/src/lib/player.svelte.ts at the reviewed head, and the declaration of takesSongs. Confirm that askPlaylistTakesSongs returns true only when the playlist page reports owned or collaborative, and that it returns false on failure. Then the assessment can be decided.

Assign the opening identifier before fetching the library.
If the picker closes and reopens before the first getLibrary() resolves, the stale response can replace the new opening's playlists. Its .finally() can also clear the new opening's loading state. Assign and invalidate the identifier at opening and close, then guard each update.

Invalidate queued playlist checks on account switch.
resetLibraryForAccount clears takesSongs but not takesSongsQueue. Old callbacks can therefore consume the two request slots before checks for the new account. This can delay eligible playlists from appearing.
The callbacks capture only the playlist ID, so the source does not establish a fetch under the previous account. Successful old checks also do not populate the new cache. However, an old failed check can delete a new cache entry for the same ID because it calls takesSongs.delete(item.id) without checking the promise generation.
Invalidate queued callbacks during reset. If cancellation removes a callback, resolve or reject its promise. Prevent old completions from modifying the new cache.

The crawl already opens every library playlist and skips the ones that are neither owned nor collaborative, so it now records those ids and the picker leaves them out. That replaces the per-session page checks the picker made itself: no extra requests, and a playlist the crawl hasn't seen yet still shows instead of waiting on its own check.
The index timestamp moves to `_v3`, so installs crawl once more and get the list straight away. Forgetting the index (sign-in, sign-out, channel switch) now deletes the stamp the crawl actually reads: it deleted the pre-`_v2` key, which left the saved marks empty for up to six hours after any of those. A crawl that outlives a switch stops before writing the old account's answers over the new one's.
SimoHypers#546
I pushed a commit to your branch (55fb16d), so please pull before your next one. The crawl behind the saved marks (sync_playlist_index) already loads every library playlist's page and skips the ones that are neither owned nor collaborative, so it now records those ids and the picker leaves them out. That's the same answer as your checks with no extra requests, and a playlist the crawl hasn't seen yet still shows. It also fixes the index timestamp, which wasn't being cleared on sign-in or a channel switch.
Tested on Fedora, the picker only lists playlists that take songs now. pnpm check and the app tests pass.
The "account changed" toast is the session healer: YouTube refuses the add with a 401/403, the app reads that as a stale session and signs in again, and that bumps the account counter. That one's ours and I'll fix it separately.
One question: have you seen a collaborative playlist you only saved, without being invited, come up as a target? collaborative comes from the Collaborate tag on the facepile, and I don't know whether people outside the playlist get it.
Thanks again, happy to merge once you've had a look.
A collaborative playlist someone only saved keeps the Collaborate facepile, so collaborative alone left it off the read-only list and YouTube then refused the add. Members get a "You have permission to add songs and videos" banner (alertWithActionsRenderer, icon PEOPLE) over the track list; PlaylistPage.contributor reads it, and the crawl treats a playlist as one songs can go into only when it is owned or the user contributes to it.
SimoHypers#546
Hi, I ran that test case, good catch. The facepile appears even on public collaborative playlists that are only saved where I'm not a member/wasn't invited to.
I compared the full browse responses for two collaborative playlists I was invited to and the one I only saved. Apart from the track rows, the only difference is a banner that only members get, alertWithActionsRenderer with "You have permission to add songs and videos" and icon PEOPLE, at secondaryContents/sectionListRenderer/header. The rows show a second difference: members get up/down votes (votingViewModel in each row's engagementBar) on every track, 33 of 33 and 98 of 98 on mine, and the saved playlist's rows have none.
I pushed d6fdd7b, which adds PlaylistPage.contributor. It's true when the banner is at that spot (matched by its icon, since the text is localized), with the per-track votes as a fallback if the banner ever changes. The crawl now requires owned || contributor, and collaborative is unchanged for the badge and columns. The parser test covers saved, invited, the banner somewhere else on the page (doesn't count), and votes with no banner. An empty playlist someone is invited to depends on the banner alone, since there are no rows to carry votes.
A collaborative playlist you own may now count as read-only. It has no editable header, so owned is false on it (browse.rs:493, from Feature : Option to remove songs from own playlists #86), and it now needs contributor to stay a target. Does the owner get the PEOPLE banner, or the votes? If not, your own collaborative playlists drop out of the picker and out of the saved marks, and an empty one would drop out even with votes as the fallback. Could you diff one you own the same way? The doc on contributor (browse.rs:229, "False on playlists the user owns") needs the same fix either way.
cargo fmt --check fails on the new test. A cargo fmt --all sorts it.
Happy to merge once the owned case is covered.

Cause
The picker only leaves out On Repeat and Liked Music. The library list it loads doesn't say who owns each playlist, so the picker had no way to tell which ones the user has permission to add to. That information is only on each playlist's own page (

The picker now sorts library playlists in two steps:
ownedByUsercheck. No network request is needed for these. On Repeat and Liked Music are still left out.ownedByUser, the app loads that playlist's page (getPlaylist), which shows (owned) or (collaborative). If either is true, the playlist is added back to the list. Playlists saved from other people fail this check and never appear. To keep this fast:
The code is two new functions in
