Why / What / How

Why. The trial costs us money — every trial can burn up to its total_cost_limit in LLM usage plus onboarding credits. We want two controls before opening it wider:

  1. Who gets it. Don't spend trial money on markets unlikely to afford our prices. India is a large share of our traffic and converts at roughly nothing; offering them a free trial for a product they can't afford is wasted spend and a poor experience. Nobody excluded should ever see the offer — not see it and be turned away later.
  2. How many at once. A ceiling on concurrent trials, which bounds worst-case trial spend at roughly cap × total_cost_limit.

What.

  • Country targeting lives in the feature flag, not in code. On the existing card-required-trial-offer flag, a targeting rule decides which countries are offered the trial — in LaunchDarkly today, in PostHog after the move. The backend passes the visitor's country to the flag as a country attribute.
  • The cap is a new max_active_trials field in the offer JSON, enforced by our database — a flag tool can't count our trials.

Both change without a deploy.

How.

Country. Choosing an audience is exactly what feature-flag tools are for. They have is / is-not operators, a UI, an audit log, and — in PostHog — conversion analytics alongside. What the tool can't do on its own is know the visitor's country when our server asks:

  • Our backend never sees the user's IP. Every browser call arrives from the Next.js proxy on Vercel, and the backend's Cloudflare sees Vercel's egress IP, not the user's.
  • LaunchDarkly has no geolocation.
  • PostHog's server SDKs disable GeoIP by default because they would geolocate our server, so the country has to be passed in person_properties.

The decision can't move to the browser either. Checkout and the trial spend are server-side, so a browser-only gate is just a UI hint. So the flag holds the rule and we supply the fact:

  1. The proxy signs Vercel's edge-geolocated x-vercel-ip-country into a 60-second frontend service JWT and sends it as X-Client-Country-Token. The JWT has scope client-country and is signed with the Better Auth JWKS key the backend already trusts, so there's no new secret. The backend reads the country only from a token that verifies. A plain country header, or a token the caller made, means no country. This matters because the browser can call the backend directly with its own bearer token. The header is hidden from the OpenAPI schema.
  2. The backend adds it to the flag evaluation as a per-request country attribute. It's layered onto a copy of the day-cached LaunchDarkly context, so the cache is never modified. key and kind can't be overridden this way.
  3. Whatever the flag returns decides both views. GET /credits/trial returns eligible: false with no offer, and POST /credits/trial returns a 409, for new and resumed checkouts, using the current flag — someone the flag now excludes can't finish a checkout they started earlier.

Capacity. New subscription_trial_capacity.py counts seats and hands them out under a global Postgres advisory lock, so two simultaneous enrolments can't both take the last seat. A seat is held by a running trial or by a checkout opened in the last 30 minutes. Without counting in-flight checkouts, a burst of simultaneous checkouts would all be admitted. Someone coming back to a checkout after their 30 minutes is re-admitted under the same lock, and their hold restarts, so returners can't all pass on one free seat either. It's enforced before the card screen: a full trial hides the offer and refuses checkout. Lowering the cap, or setting it to 0 to pause enrolment, never revokes a seat already held.

What was removed, and why. An earlier revision of this PR also rejected trials at fulfilment by the card's issuing country. That check could only fire after someone had seen the offer and entered a card — the experience we're trying to prevent — and it saved nothing, since a rejected user never started a trial. People who get past the edge with a VPN still need a card, get one trial per card and account (the existing identity claims), and self-select for motivation. Removed.

Configuring it (LaunchDarkly, production)

Today production serves the off variation to everyone (no rules, fallthrough {"enabled": false}). To launch with an exclusion list:

  1. Add a rule: country is not one of IN → serve the offer variation.
  2. Leave the fallthrough on the off variation.
  3. Optionally add "max_active_trials": 500 (or your number) to the offer variation's JSON, but only after the release-order steps below.

⚠️ Release order

I verified with LaunchDarkly's real SDK evaluator that a missing attribute never matches a clause, even a negated one. So this shape also withholds the trial when the country is unknown. The opposite shape ("country is one of IN → off; fallthrough → offer") would show it to unknown countries. An allowlist ("country is one of US, GB, … → offer") works too. All three are pure configuration.

Worth knowing for the goal: the context already carries email_domain, so a rule like "India and a company email domain → trial" is possible without code. So is serving borderline markets a variation with a smaller total_cost_limit — spend less instead of nothing.

PostHog move: the property is country, the same name LaunchDarkly uses. scripts/feature_flag_sync.py ports LaunchDarkly's country rules to a PostHog country person property, and #14317 builds person_properties from the same LaunchDarkly context, so nothing needs renaming. That PR only has to carry the request attributes through and allowlist country (see Release order). Don't switch to $geoip_country_code: the ported rules wouldn't match it.

Changes 🏗️

  • util/feature_flag.py — get_feature_flag_value(..., attributes=) adds per-request attributes to a copy of the cached context (Context.from_dict).
  • subscription_trial_config.py — max_active_trials on TrialOffer. get_trial_offer(user_id, country=) sends the country to the flag and treats a blank one as unknown. A country that isn't an assigned ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code (backend/util/country.py) means no offer, without asking the flag. The off variation ({"enabled": false} or null) is now a deliberate "no offer". Pre-existing bug fixed: that variation used to fail validation and log an ERROR on every status request — soon every visitor from an excluded country.
  • subscription_trial_capacity.py (new) — seat counting, the advisory lock, trial_seat_available(). There's one SQL definition of "holding a seat", shared by the count and the holder check.
  • subscription_trial.py — reserve_subscription_trial() takes the seat atomically (lock → count → insert) in its own short transaction, so the global lock doesn't wait on the caller's Stripe calls. This replaces the previous UniqueViolationError retry, because the lock serialises same-user races.
  • subscription_trial_checkout.py — one gate with the current flag and current cap, covering new and resumed checkouts. A resumed checkout goes through renew_trial_seat(), which locks, checks and restarts the hold in one short transaction before any Stripe call.
  • subscription_trial_routes.py — reads the country on both endpoints, only from a verified X-Client-Country-Token (frontend_service_claims in autogpt_libs/auth/service.py). The capacity gate is on status.
  • Frontend proxy — signs x-vercel-ip-country into X-Client-Country-Token (lib/auth/country-token.ts, one token per country reused for 30s) and never forwards a browser-supplied country or token. If signing fails, the request still goes through, with no country. openapi.json only gains FastAPI's standard 422 entry on GET /credits/trial, because the endpoint now has a (hidden) parameter.

Configuration changes: none to .env.default or docker-compose.yml. Local dev and preview behave as today unless their flag environment has a country rule, since there's no Vercel header locally.

What changed since Nick's version

Nick's head was e6220ae. Bently took the PR over from there:

  • 9e719bc — cap 0 keeps a seat that's already held (CodeRabbit's Major).
  • 32f11f0 — the country comes only from a proxy-signed token, and only as an assigned ISO code (kcze's two Should Fixes).
  • a544faf — the cap is kept out of stored enrolments, and the seat race runs against real Postgres (kcze's test finding, and the revert half of extra="forbid").
  • 6d1faa4 — a returning checkout is re-admitted under the capacity lock (kcze's resume finding).

Review outcomes

Finding Outcome
kcze: spoofable country header Fixed in 32f11f0
kcze: unvalidated country fails open Fixed in 32f11f0. XK is excluded; say if it should be allowed
kcze: no executed test of the seat race Fixed in a544faf
kcze: resume admitted without the lock Fixed in 6d1faa4
kcze: PostHog property name Settled on country; the doc that suggested $geoip_country_code is corrected
kcze: extra="forbid" rollout and revert Revert fixed in a544faf (rows don't store the cap). Rollout can't be fixed from here (old pods reject the key), so it's in Release order
CodeRabbit (inline and outside-diff Major): cap 0 must keep a held seat Fixed in 9e719bc
Sentry: advisory-lock cast, live-vs-reserved offer, 30-min hold vs 24h session, cap 0 holder Already resolved in b5d1c90, f718eb4 and 9e719bc

Tester VM evidence (PR merged onto today's dev, against a dev baseline)

The VMs have no LaunchDarkly or Stripe keys. A VM-only harness stands in for exactly those two, and is never committed:

  • LaunchDarkly's real SDK evaluator on TestData, carrying the recommended rule.
  • A small stateful fake Stripe: customers, prices, Checkout Sessions, subscriptions, a stand-in hosted checkout page, and signed webhooks sent to the real /api/credits/stripe_webhook.

The Next.js proxy, Better Auth JWKS signing, backend verification, Postgres and every webhook handler are the real ones. Edge geolocation is simulated by setting x-vercel-ip-country on the proxy request.

Case dev (before) this PR (after)
US / GB via proxy offer (rule-free flag). With the country rule, nobody gets it: dev never sends a country offer
IN, unknown, ZZ, "IN, US", XK, india offer none
IN visitor + X-Client-Country: US, forged token, own bearer token, direct to backend offer none
POST as IN / spoofed 200 checkout URL 409
max_active_trials in the flag dev rejects the whole offer (Invalid card-required-trial-offer) cap enforced
Two users POST at once for the last seat no cap exists one 200, one 409 "full"
Cap full / cap 0 – no offer. At cap 0 the checkout holder still sees eligible: true
Two returners with lapsed holds, one free seat (6d1faa4 before/after) both re-admitted, neither holds a seat first re-admitted and holds it, second 409
Billing UI, US: offer → checkout → back → trial running → paid works works identically (screenshots compared)
Billing and onboarding plan step, IN trial card shown no trial card, plan cards unchanged
With master's #14768 (plan cards embed the trial) applied on top – US Pro card shows "7 days free / Start 7-day trial"; IN gets a plain "Get Pro"

Tests on the VM:

  • Backend: 513 passed, 0 failed. That's 22 trial/subscription/checkout data suites, the trial routes, feature flag, country and the flag sync, with the real-Postgres trial integration tests enabled.
  • New returner race test: red with the old unlocked check ([True, True] == [False, True]), green with the fix.
  • Frontend: 687/689 across the proxy, auth tokens, billing, onboarding, TrialCard and trial services. The 2 failures are pre-existing: formatShortDate fails on dev too, and the brain-dump test is load-flaky (17/17 in isolation).
  • black, isort, ruff and pyright are clean on the touched files.

Checklist 📋

For code changes:

  • I have clearly listed my changes in the PR description
  • I have made a test plan
  • I have tested my changes according to the test plan:
    • Real flag evaluation, end to end — a test builds the recommended production rule in LaunchDarkly's own SDK (TestData) and evaluates through our code: US/BR → offer, IN → none, unknown → none
    • Attribute layering — country reaches the evaluated context, email_domain is kept, the cached context is unchanged, key/kind can't be overridden
    • Country is the flag's decision — IN / in → {"country": "IN"}; missing, empty or whitespace → no attribute (unknown, not "a non-excluded country")
    • Off variation — {"enabled": false} and null → no offer, and no ERROR log
    • Visibility — the header reaches the flag from GET and POST; an excluded visitor gets eligible: false and no offer; a pending enrolment is hidden once excluded; an excluded visitor can't resume
    • Header hygiene — the proxy signs the edge value and drops a browser-supplied country or token. The backend ignores a plain X-Client-Country, and a forged, HS256, user-audience, other-scope or expired token. The header isn't in the OpenAPI schema
    • Capacity — below/at/over cap; 0 and null answered without a query; a held seat survives others filling up; resume is checked against the current cap; a full trial is a 409, not a 500
    • SQL against real Postgres — both seat queries and the advisory lock run against local platform."SubscriptionTrial"
    • Suites — backend: 165 trial data-layer, 33 trial API, 73 feature-flag tests; frontend: full pnpm test:unit; format/lint/types/pyright clean; all pre-commit hooks pass

Not covered: the live Vercel → proxy → backend hop, and Stripe's real hosted checkout (the fake above drives the same webhooks). The proxy → backend hop, with a real Better Auth JWKS signature, was checked on a tester VM. After this deploys, add the country rule in a non-production environment, exclude your own country, and confirm the offer disappears — then set the production rule.

Note

High Risk
Changes subscription trial eligibility, billing checkout, and feature-flag evaluation for a revenue-sensitive path; incorrect country or cap logic could hide offers or admit excess trials.

Overview
Adds configurable trial rollout controls without deploys: country audience via the existing card-required-trial-offer flag, and concurrent enrollment cap via new max_active_trials on the offer JSON enforced in Postgres.

Country. The Next.js API proxy forwards Vercel’s x-vercel-ip-country as hidden X-Client-Country (browser-supplied values are stripped). Trial GET/POST pass that into get_trial_offer(..., country=), which evaluates the flag with a per-request country attribute layered onto the cached LaunchDarkly context (get_feature_flag_value(..., attributes=)). Excluded or unknown countries get no offer on status and 409 on checkout, including users resuming a pending enrollment when the flag no longer serves them.

Capacity. New subscription_trial_capacity counts “seats” (active trials plus checkout_pending updated within 30 minutes), serializes reservations with a global advisory lock, and gates status/checkout before Stripe. reserve_subscription_trial takes seats in a short transaction; a full trial hides the offer and maps to retryable TrialUnavailable. max_active_trials is excluded from the offer token so cap tweaks do not invalidate in-flight checkouts. LaunchDarkly→PostHog sync gains country and safer negated country rules.

Reviewed by Cursor Bugbot for commit e6220ae. Bugbot is set up for automated code reviews on this repo. Configure here.

Both knobs ride the existing card-required-trial-offer LaunchDarkly JSON
flag, so operators change them without a deploy:

  "max_active_trials": 500,
  "eligible_countries": ["US", "CA", "GB"]

Omitting either keeps today's behaviour (uncapped, worldwide), so offers
already persisted on enrolments keep validating unchanged.

The cap cannot live in LaunchDarkly alone -- it is a count over our own
rows -- so subscription_trial_capacity.py counts seats and hands them out
under a global advisory lock. A seat is a running trial or a checkout
opened in the last 30 minutes, so a burst of simultaneous enrolments
cannot all read the same last free seat. It is enforced before the card
screen: a full trial hides the offer and refuses checkout with a 409
rather than rejecting someone after they have entered a card. Lowering
the cap never revokes a seat already held.

Country is matched against the card's issuing country, the only country
Stripe attests to, so it can only be checked at fulfilment. The check is
ordered ahead of claim_trial_identities on purpose: a country rejection
must not spend the card's one introductory offer, or the same card could
never redeem it later from a country we do serve.

Walkthrough

The frontend proxy now forwards signed country tokens. Backend trial offer selection uses verified country claims and normalized country codes. Trial flows enforce configured seat limits when reporting status, reserving enrollments, and resuming checkout.

The proxy signs edge-observed country values and forwards them as X-Client-Country-Token. Backend claim validation accepts only frontend service tokens with the requested scope. Feature-flag evaluation applies request attributes without changing cached identity, and synchronization maps country clauses with attribute-presence conditions for negated clauses.

Capacity helpers count running trials and recent pending checkouts, preserve seats held by existing enrollments, and serialize seat-taking with an advisory transaction lock. Renewal refreshes a pending checkout reservation when capacity is available.

Trial routes use verified country claims for offer lookup and check seat availability for status responses. Enrollment reservation checks capacity inside a transaction, while checkout renewal re-admits a pending trial against the current cap. The OpenAPI specification documents a 422 response for trial status.

Country targeting now relies on a proxy-signed token, and trial capacity is enforced under a database lock. Users who already hold a seat keep it when enrolment is paused. The remaining issue is limited to tests: the concurrency tests would fail on Python 3.10. The change is safe to merge after that small fix or with owner acknowledgement.

Country was only enforced at fulfilment, from the card's issuing country,
so a visitor outside the allowlist would see the offer, enter a card, and
then be turned away. That is not acceptable for a restriction: nobody
ineligible should see the trial at all.

Every browser call reaches the backend through the Next.js proxy on
Vercel, and Vercel stamps x-vercel-ip-country on each request it serves.
The proxy now forwards that value as X-Client-Country -- and only that
value: the browser's own copy is not allowlisted, so a client cannot claim
a country through the product. The backend reads the header on both trial
endpoints and folds it into the one eligibility predicate, so a restricted
offer is hidden from anyone outside it, or whose country it cannot
establish, before the offer is ever rendered, and refused at checkout the
same way. The card-country check at fulfilment stays as the backstop for
anyone who reaches the API around the proxy.

This is deliberately provider-agnostic. PostHog's stored geoip property
would also work but depends on event ingestion having completed, which
lags by seconds to minutes -- for a trial offered mid-onboarding that
would hide it from exactly the new users it is for. The edge header has no
such race, and when flags move to PostHog it is the same value the backend
would pass as $geoip_country_code for server-side country targeting.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Preserve existing reservations when max_active_trials is zero.

trial_seat_available() returns False before it checks whether a supplied trial_id already holds a seat. This blocks checkout resumption and hides checkout-pending reservations after an administrator sets the cap to zero.

  • autogpt_platform/backend/backend/api/features/subscription_trial_routes.py#L95-L95: use the corrected helper behavior so the pending reservation remains visible.

Authorization Bypass

Keep x-vercel-ip-country behind an enforced trust boundary. buildForwardHeaders forwards any present value as X-Client-Country. If production preserves client-supplied values, an authenticated user can forge the country used by get_trial_status to obtain a restricted offer and pass it into checkout. The fulfilment path separately checks the card country, so this does not prove a final enrolment bypass. Ensure the edge strips or overwrites this header, or use an authenticated platform signal.

The point of the country gate is economic: don't spend trial cost on
markets that can't afford our prices (India is most of our traffic and
converts at roughly nothing), and don't show them an offer they can't use.
That is audience targeting -- exactly what the flag tool is for, in
LaunchDarkly today and in PostHog after the move. So the list no longer
lives in our code or in the offer JSON; it lives in the flag's targeting
rules, where is / is-not operators, the UI, the audit log, and (in
PostHog) conversion analytics already exist.

What the flag tool cannot do on its own is know the visitor's country
when our server asks it. The server never sees the user's IP -- requests
arrive from the Vercel proxy -- LaunchDarkly has no geo at all, and
PostHog's server SDKs disable GeoIP by default because they would
geolocate our server. So the backend hands the proxy's X-Client-Country
to the flag as a per-request `country` attribute, layered onto the
day-cached context without modifying it. The flag holds the rule; we
supply the fact. On the PostHog move this maps to $geoip_country_code in
person_properties.

Verified against the real LaunchDarkly evaluator: a missing attribute
never matches a clause, negated or not. "country is not one of IN ->
offer; fallthrough off" therefore withholds the trial from an unknown
country too. A blank header is treated as unknown, not as a known
non-excluded country.

Removed the card-issuing-country check at fulfilment. It could only fire
after someone had seen the offer and entered a card, and it saved nothing:
a rejected user never started a trial. VPN users who slip past the edge
still need a card, get one trial per card and account, and self-select
for motivation.

Also:
- Production's off variation is {"enabled": false}, which the offer model
rejected as invalid and logged as an ERROR on every status request --
soon every visitor from an excluded country. Treated as a deliberate
  "no offer" now, like null.
- Resuming a pending checkout is checked against the current flag and the
current cap, not the ones pinned at enrolment, so someone the flag now
  excludes cannot continue.
- X-Client-Country is hidden from the OpenAPI schema; browsers must not
  learn to send it.

The token hashes the terms a user is shown and accepts at checkout. The
cap is capacity config, not a term: including it changed every offer's
token on deploy and would bounce users mid-checkout whenever the cap is
changed. Excluded, so offers hash exactly as on dev (pinned in a test).

Setting max_active_trials to 0 refused a user already holding a checkout
seat, while lowering the cap to any other value kept it. Pausing now keeps
held seats too, as the offer's own comment and the PR describe.

The backend trusted a plain X-Client-Country header, but the browser can
call the backend directly with its own bearer token, so any caller could
claim a country and bypass the trial's country rule.

The proxy now signs Vercel's edge country into a 60-second frontend
service JWT (scope client-country), using the Better Auth JWKS key the
backend already trusts, and sends it as X-Client-Country-Token. The
backend reads the country only from a token that verifies; a plain
header, a forged or expired token, or a user's own token means no
country, which the rule withholds.

A country that is present but not an assigned ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code
("IN, US", XX, EU, XK, India) now means no offer instead of reaching the
flag, where "country is not one of IN" would have served it.
…t for real

Every capacity test patched the seat count, so the lock/count/insert
path and its SQL never ran. The new integration test runs in the CI data
shard: two enrolments pause after counting until both have counted, and
exactly one gets the last seat. With the advisory lock removed, both are
admitted and the test fails. It also runs the reservation window, the
exclude filter, the holder check and cap 0 against real rows.

Enrolment rows no longer store max_active_trials. The cap is read from
the live flag every time, and leaving it out keeps rows readable by code
that predates it, so reverting the cap does not strand enrolments.
…lock

Resuming a pending trial checkout checked the cap without the lock and
without renewing the hold. Once a 30-minute hold had lapsed, several people
coming back at once could each pass on the same free seat.

The resume path now calls renew_trial_seat: in its own short transaction it
takes the capacity lock, checks the seat and restarts the hold, all before
any Stripe call. An uncapped offer skips it. A new real-Postgres test races
two lapsed returners for one free seat and admits exactly one.

🤖 CodeRabbit's outside-diff Major (cap 0 must keep an existing reservation, subscription_trial_eligibility.py:27 / subscription_trial_routes.py:95): fixed.

The fix is in 9e719bc. trial_seat_available keeps a seat that trial_id already holds when max_active_trials is 0, and both the status route and checkout resume go through it. The inline version of the same finding has the details: #14799 (comment)

  • Tests: test_zero_cap_keeps_a_held_seat, plus a real-Postgres check in a544faf.
  • Tester VM (PR merged onto dev), cap 0: the holder of a fresh checkout still sees eligible: true and status: checkout_pending, and a newcomer gets no offer.

Do not add a separate algorithm check to frontend_service_claims.

frontend_service_claims calls parse_jwt_token_async, which delegates to parse_jwt_token. The parser rejects non-string, HS*, and unsupported algorithms before JWKS verification. It converts JWT and JWKS-client verification failures to ValueError, which frontend_service_claims handles by returning None.

The proposed shared header check is redundant. The HS256 acceptance and HTTP 500 claims are refuted.

⚠️ Verdict: Review incomplete — UI variant hosted could not be validated; fix the review setup or missing evidence and rerun.

Configurable trial country-targeting and capacity cap that is well-layered, fail-closed, and unusually well-tested (real signing, real SDK evaluator, real-Postgres race). No reachable defect found; merge still requires the configured human signoff on the frontend/src/lib/auth changes.

Findings: 🔴 0 blockers | 🟠 0 should fix | 🟡 2 nice to have | 🔵 1 nit

Optional advice — does not block approval

🟡 Nice to Have

  • 🔵 autogpt_platform/backend/backend/data/subscription_trial_capacity.py:150 Watch per-poll seat COUNT once a cap is configured — Once a numeric max_active_trials cap is live, every eligible visitor's status poll triggers a COUNT(*) over SubscriptionTrial. It is rate-limited and index-served, so it is fine at launch scale but repeats identical scans under heavy concurrent polling.
Suggestion: If status polling volume grows, cache the seat count briefly or add a partial index covering the checkout_pending + updatedAt branch.
  • 🔵 autogpt_platform/backend/backend/data/subscription_trial.py:117 Skip global lock for uncapped reservations — reserve_subscription_trial now takes the global advisory lock on every reservation, including when the offer is uncapped, serializing all users' reservations where the old path only handled same-user races. The lock is short and reservations are rare, so impact is negligible.
Suggestion: Optional: skip lock_trial_capacity/trial_seat_available when offer.max_active_trials is None.
Optional advice — does not block approval

🔵 Nits

  • 🔵 autogpt_platform/backend/backend/data/subscription_trial_capacity_integration_test.py:200 De-duplicate the race-test coordination harness — The count_then_pause coordination helper is duplicated across the two race tests, and one test inlines the aging SQL already exposed as lapse(); these can drift over time.
Suggestion: Extract a shared count_then_pause helper and call lapse() instead of inlining the UPDATE SQL.

GitHub CI on reviewed head: success

Validation and specialist details

Specialist Reports

Specialist Status Summary
security ✅ PASS Security-conscious change: country attestation is JWKS-signed and fails closed, the proxy uses a strict header allowlist, country values are ISO-validated before the flag, and capacity SQL uses bound parameters under an advisory lock — no concrete security defect found.
architect ✅ PASS Well-layered, acyclic, fail-closed design with strong identity-override protection; no architectural defects, though the frontend/src/lib/auth changes still require the configured human signoff.
performance ✅ PASS No blocking performance defects; the new seat-count query is correctly gated to capped offers and the global reservation lock deliberately excludes Stripe calls, leaving only a minor per-poll COUNT worth watching at scale.
testing ✅ PASS Test coverage is thorough and meaningful across country attestation, flag targeting, seat-cap arithmetic, and the concurrency race, using real signing/SDK/Postgres rather than mock-only checks; no defect-hiding assertions found.
quality ✅ PASS Cleanly written, well-documented change; only minor advisory test-duplication and a documented empty-string sentinel, no quality blockers.
product ✅ PASS Configurable country targeting and trial capacity cap correctly hide the offer before the card screen for excluded/unknown countries and full trials, with clear error messaging and deliberate fail-closed defaults; no concrete product defect found.
discussion ✅ PASS CI is pending (no failure) on head 6d1faa4 with a clean merge, and every human reviewer thread from kcze has an author reply, so there are no open discussion findings.
ui-reviewer (local) ✅ PASS Well-tested, correctly fail-closed trial country-targeting and capacity-cap change; source review found no reachable defect, with two non-blocking advisories.

🤖 Outcomes for the autogpt-pr-reviewer review of 6d1faa4 (0 blockers, 0 should fix). None of these needs a change in this PR, so there's no push and CI stays green:

  • 🟡 Seat COUNT on each status poll: left as is, to watch. It only runs once a numeric cap is set. The status filter is served by the (status, endsAt) index, and SubscriptionTrial holds one row per enrolled user. If polling volume grows, a short cache or a partial index on the checkout_pending + updatedAt branch is the follow-up.
  • 🟡 Global lock on uncapped reservations: left as is. The reviewer rates the impact as negligible: the lock covers one count and one insert, never a Stripe call. Skipping it when the cap is None would be safe, because same-user races are already serialised by the per-user subscription_checkout_lock, which is also a Postgres advisory lock. It isn't worth a push and a CI restart today, so it's an optional follow-up.
  • 🔵 Duplicated race-test helper: left as is. It's test-only, and both copies are exercised in CI. Folding them into a shared count_then_pause and using lapse() in the older test is a small cleanup for a later PR.
  • "Review incomplete": only the hosted UI variant failed, on an apt mirror hash mismatch while building its image (python3.13 install, exit 100). That's reviewer infrastructure, not this PR. The local UI reviewer and all six specialists passed. The frontend/src/lib/auth human signoff is still needed by policy.

Brings in #14799's per-request flag attributes. The request attributes are
now layered onto the shared user context once, in _evaluate_flag_value, so
LaunchDarkly, PostHog and the dual run all evaluate the visitor's country;
PostHog receives it as a `country` person property.
