The project metadata currently declares no Python modules, so a built wheel does not provide a usable application. Font lookup also depends on the working directory. This change includes main and api, installs the CLI entry point and bundled configuration/font resources, and locates source, installed and PyInstaller resources independently of the caller's directory.

Adds an installed-wheel smoke check and a Windows executable help check, preserving the existing distribution layout and version.

Validation: Python 3.13, 20 offline tests passed; wheel/sdist built and the installed CLI/resources work from outside the checkout. Added regressions for user installations and platform-independent console encoding. Linux installed-wheel CI passed at the latest commit; the latest Windows executable build/help check also passed. Codacy passed. The contribution starts from current upstream main.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • The application can be installed as a package and launched with the chaoxing command. The installation includes its configuration template and font mapping.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Resource lookup works more reliably outside the repository, including in installed packages.
    • On Windows, console output supports UTF-8, improving the display of non-English text.
  • Tests
    • Automated checks verify the packaged command and resources, run help checks for the Windows executable, and now run on pull requests.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The change configures setuptools packaging for the application, adds the chaoxing command, updates resource lookup, configures Windows console output, and adds CI checks for the executable and installed wheel.

Changes

Package installation and runtime support

Layer / File(s) Summary
Wheel packaging and resource lookup
pyproject.toml, api/cxsecret_font.py, tests/test_resources.py
The setuptools configuration packages the application and data files under share/chaoxing and defines the chaoxing command. resource_path checks package-relative and installed locations. Tests cover resource access from outside the repository and user resource lookup.
Windows console encoding
main.py, tests/test_console.py
On Windows, configure_console() sets available stdout and stderr streams to UTF-8 with replacement error handling. The test checks Chinese text output.
Executable and installed-wheel checks
.github/workflows/main.yml, .github/workflows/package.yml
The workflows check the Windows executable help output and build and install a wheel before checking the CLI and FontHashDAO from /tmp.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to abff9

The packaging and resource paths are consistent, and the console test retains its encoding check across platforms. No actionable merge-blocking risk remains, subject to normal build and CI checks.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 09e68

The installed command preserves the existing login flow, and resource discovery no longer depends on the caller’s working directory. No introduced security vulnerability was established. Resource trust in shared or privileged installations and effective permissions for the Windows build remain uncertain.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The demonstrated exposure is the invoking CLI process’s font-decoding behavior and execution of pull-request code in hosted build jobs. The inspected changes do not establish a new unauthenticated service endpoint, cross-tenant authority, or production deployment path.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Resource selection prefers the package-relative candidate, then share/chaoxing under the base directory and installation prefix, before consulting the user base. Selection checks file existence, not provenance or version. The user-base branch is intentionally tested, but its ownership in shared deployments is not established.
  • observed — The installed-wheel workflow explicitly limits repository contents permission to read. The Windows workflow has no explicit permissions declaration and contains build, smoke-test, and artifact-upload steps, but no explicit secret reference or release-publication step. Its effective token permissions depend on settings not supplied here.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Import-time font-load failure creates an empty mapping, and decryption preserves unmapped characters. This degradation behavior predates the PR. Resource lookup changes which file can satisfy the load, but do not add in-process refresh or recovery.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — If shared or privileged execution is supported, define which installation owns font resources and restrict cross-owner fallback accordingly. Making Windows workflow permissions explicit would also reduce dependence on repository defaults. These are preventive proposals, not verified vulnerabilities.

with pip install --user resolve from the user data directory rather than
assuming sys.prefix; prefer package resources or add the applicable user-base
lookup, while preserving the existing source-checkout and PyInstaller paths.
