Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added an OAuth authorization page showing the requesting app, requested permissions, and redirect destination, with options to allow or deny access.
    • Added a warning for loopback redirects and clear feedback when authorization cannot be completed.
  • Security
    • The authorization page cannot be embedded in frames and is excluded from search engine indexing.
    • Requests to the authorization page follow the app’s existing authentication flow.

Explain Change →

Walkthrough

The change adds an OAuth authorization page that displays requested scopes and client details, handles Allow and Deny decisions, and redirects when the authorization service returns a redirect URL. The route also receives proxy handling and response headers that prohibit framing and indexing.

Changes: OAuth consent flow

Layer / File(s) Summary
OAuth response contract and API
types/oauth.ts, services/oauth.service.ts
OAuth response types and a transformer define the consent request shape. OAuthService loads consent requests and submits decisions.
Consent loading and decision handling
hooks/useOAuthConsent.ts
useOAuthConsent loads the request, handles redirects and errors, and submits Allow or Deny decisions.
Authorization page and route handling
app/oauth/authorize/page.tsx, proxy.ts, next.config.js
The page displays consent details and controls. The proxy matcher includes the route. Route-specific headers prohibit framing and indexing.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to b3612

Users could approve a different authorization request from the one displayed. Bind the displayed consent details to the submitted request before merging.

Security architecture risk: Moderate · up to b3612

The new approval flow can display details from an earlier request while submitting a decision for a changed request. Sign-in and anti-framing controls reduce exposure, but they do not address this consent-binding gap. Server-side enforcement could not be verified.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: The new consent transaction is not bound to the request whose details were displayed. If the query changes while the component remains mounted, the previous client, scopes, and redirect host remain visible until the replacement load completes, but Allow or Deny submits the new query. An outstanding decision can also redirect after its originating query becomes obsolete. This creates a conditional consent-integrity risk; a reliable attacker-triggered transition was not established.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The identified concern affects the integrity of an OAuth decision for the signed-in account. Its effective permissions and downstream data access depend on the scopes and enforcement accepted by the external authorization API, which were not verified.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — The conditional path is: display request A, change the query to request B without remounting, then select Allow before B’s details replace A’s. The callback posts B while A remains visible. Cancellation prevents stale GET writes but does not clear A or disable decisions during B’s load. This is not evidence of unauthenticated access or a verified remote exploit.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The route checks for a session token, and the API client attaches Authorization: Token when an API token is available. The existing client still sends requests when no token is available. That behavior predates this PR and does not establish that the backend accepts unauthenticated requests.
  • observed — The frontend trusts API-returned redirect URLs for browser navigation. A service comment states that the backend validates the authorization query on every call, but the inspected client code does not prove redirect registration, scheme restrictions, identity binding, expiry, or replay enforcement on the server.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Load or decision failures set an error that replaces the consent controls, and the hook performs no automatic decision retry. A decision failure does not determine whether the server committed the grant before the response was lost; recovery and repeat-submission guarantees remain dependent on the unverified server contract.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Represent consent as a versioned transaction: bind displayed details and decisions to the same loaded query and identity, invalidate controls when either changes, and ignore obsolete decision completions. An expiring server-issued consent handle could strengthen this binding alongside server-side ownership and duplicate-decision enforcement.

Your team has set up Codex to review pull requests in this repo. Reviews are triggered when you

  • Open a pull request for review

  • Comment "@codex review" or "@codex security review".

Codex reacts with 👀 while any review is running, comments if it has suggestions, and reacts with 👍 once all reviews finish with no findings.

The consent page fetches the authorization request as soon
as it loads and doesn't check for a session itself.
A signed-out user would hit a generic error with no way to
sign in.
Gating the route redirects them to sign in, and the callback
URL keeps the OAuth query string, so they land back on the
consent screen afterwards.
The consent page has an Allow button that grants another app
access to the user's account, which makes it a clickjacking
target. Forbid all framing with CSP and `X-Frame-Options`
for older browsers.
Also mark it `noindex`, since it's a per-request page.
The page passes the client's authorization request to the
backend unchanged, and every redirect URL comes from the
backend, so the frontend never builds one.

If the backend answers with a redirect instead of a consent
request, the page follows it straight away.

Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Bind displayed consent details to the submitted query.

If a same-route client-side navigation changes the OAuth query, useSearchParams() updates the query without necessarily remounting this component. The hook keeps the previous request while the new GET runs. A user can then select Allow for the details of one request while decide submits the other request. Clear or key the consent state by query, and block decisions until the displayed request matches the submitted query. A retained error also needs to clear when the query changes. (nextjs.org)

Major · Functional Correctness · Heavy lift

Bind consent state and decisions to the same query.

If client-side navigation changes the query on /oauth/authorize, this effect keeps the previous request visible while it loads the new one. decide then submits the new query, so a user can approve a request different from the one displayed. A retained error can also hide a later successful request. Invalidate query-bound state when the query changes, and block decisions until the displayed request belongs to the current query. Next.js supports updating search parameters without remounting the page. (nextjs.org)
