test(mobile): guard the dev-launcher flags that hide dev overlays for agents - #8616
saddlepaddle wants to merge 1 commit into
Conversation
… agents expo-dev-launcher 57.0.20 reads disableAutoLaunch=1 and disableFab=1 from the expo-development-client URL and writes them to the dev menu preferences. With them, an agent-driven EAS simulator session opens with no dev-menu sheet and no floating gear over the header. No native rebuild is needed. This test fails if an Expo upgrade drops the flags, because the overlays would then come back without any error.

- Pass disableAutoLaunch=1&disableFab=1 on every dev-client load, so no dev menu opens at launch and no gear covers the toolbar (replaces #8616). - Keep egress and Metro logs and PIDs in .tmp/eas-dev/ of the checkout, and kill a PID only when it is still an egress client, so two checkouts no longer stop each other's tunnel. - On macOS, find a client's cwd with lsof instead of matching every client. - Confirm a load from the Metro log only when this script started Metro. - Treat the tunnel as healthy only when its last state is "connected". - Refuse the fingerprint lookup when bun differs from .bun-version, instead of starting a build that fails (the root cause behind #8618). - Exit when Metro does not start; reject --new with --reload.
) * fix(mobile): make eas-dev.sh survive new sessions and first loads --new used to keep the egress client of the old session, so the app could not reach Metro. The script now records the client it starts, replaces it whenever a session starts or the client is not connected to the current session, and keeps a healthy one on reuse. After the tunnel connects, it loads the app through the dev-client URL and waits for a new "iOS Bundled" line in the Metro log, three tries. --reload does only that, so agents never need agent-device open Superset. simctl is out of reach, so on a new session the script opens the keyboard once in Settings and dismisses the slide-to-type intro. Docs: how to reload and switch sessions, and that SwiftUI menu items need coordinate taps. * fix(mobile): eas-dev.sh hides dev overlays and keeps state per checkout - Pass disableAutoLaunch=1&disableFab=1 on every dev-client load, so no dev menu opens at launch and no gear covers the toolbar (replaces #8616). * fix(mobile): eas-dev.sh matches only the exact connected line * fix(mobile): eas-dev.sh touches only egress clients in this checkout * fix(mobile): eas-dev.sh compares physical paths to find its egress clients

Problem
When an agent drives the dev build on an EAS cloud simulator, two Expo dev-client overlays get in the way:
Fix
No app change is needed. expo-dev-launcher 57.0.20 (already installed) supports two flags on the
expo-development-clientdeep link (expo/expo#49651):disableAutoLaunch=1marks the dev-menu onboarding as finished and sets "show at launch" to off.disableFab=1hides the floating gear. The launcher writes both to the dev menu's
UserDefaults, so they stay set for later launches of that install. The installed simulator build does not change, so no native rebuild is needed. The dev menu stays available on demand (⌃D, oragent-device).Only a launch that uses the URL with these flags changes. A person who opens the dev build by hand, or through
expo start, gets today's behaviour.scripts/eas-dev.shturns the flags on in a separate change, owned by another agent (see "Turning it on" below). This PR adds
expo-dev-launcher-agent-flags.test.ts. It fails if an Expo upgrade removes or renames either flag, which would otherwise bring both overlays back without any error. It follows the existing*-patch.test.tsguards, which read the installed native source.Rejected alternatives
EXDevMenuShowsAtLaunch,EXDevMenuShowFloatingActionButton): need a native rebuild and change the build for everyone.-EXDevMenu… NOlaunch arguments:eas simulatorandagent-device openhave no way to pass them.DevMenuPreferences.setPreferencesAsyncfrom JS: runs after launch, and cannot set the onboarding flag, so the sheet still opens on a fresh install.Turning it on (for
eas-dev.sh)Add
&disableAutoLaunch=1&disableFab=1toDEV_CLIENT_URL. That URL is used for botheas simulator --open-urland the reload after egress connects. Both must carry the flags: a fresh install that first loads without them shows the onboarding sheet.Verification
Real EAS simulator, build
47f68dac(fingerprint9245768a665f, matching this checkout), driven withagent-device0.21.28.Flags off (today's script URL): fresh session. The dev-menu sheet covers the app; after it is dismissed, the gear covers the top-right voice-mode button.
Flags on: new fresh session, with
--open-urland the reload both using the flagged URL. No sheet and no gear (agent-device snapshot -ishows no "Tools", "Continue" or "Close" nodes from the dev menu). A relaunch with the plain URL stays clean, so the preferences persist. This session ended on sign-in because the one-time dev token had already been used by the first session. I did not sign in a second time, so the "on" screenshots show the sign-in screen, not Home.Checks:
bun test expo-dev-launcher-agent-flags.test.ts(1 pass);bunx biome check --write(clean). Both simulator sessions were stopped.Summary by cubic
Adds a test that fails if an Expo upgrade removes the
disableAutoLaunchanddisableFabflags fromexpo-dev-launcher's URL handling. These flags hide the dev-menu onboarding sheet and floating gear during agent-driven EAS simulator sessions; if an upgrade drops them, both overlays come back without any error.Written for commit 249ec72. Summary will update on new commits.
