Summary

The application preparation workflow is refactored to centralize all application data into a single APPLICATION.md file, which is structured by individual field IDs. The README.md now serves as the primary checklist tracker with a new progress indicator. New tooling is introduced to streamline bootstrapping project information, generating the final submission document, and submitting the application directly to the CNCF sandbox repository. This change aims to simplify the user experience and improve maintainability.

Closes #

Application fields updated

  • See APPLICATION.md — list field IDs here, e.g. project_summary, maintainers_file

Revamp the CNCF sandbox application process to improve clarity and automation.

Key changes include:
* Consolidate all application content into a single `APPLICATION.md` file, serving as a direct field-based input.
* Promote `README.md` to be the primary checklist tracking document, including a new progress indicator.
* Introduce `scripts/generate-submission.sh` and related tooling to automatically build the final `CNCF-SUBMISSION.md` from `APPLICATION.md`, enabling direct issue creation.
* Remove the fragmented `application/*.md` file structure.
* Update issue templates and workflows to align with the new field-based approach.

This change simplifies the applicant's experience by providing a single source of truth for application data and automating the submission step.
