Initialize fringe parameters to zero so default field extents do not depend on reused memory, fixing the CI failure in TestMultipoleT.OddApis. Add regression coverage for default initialization, asymmetric fringes, length changes, and zero fringe extents. Document units and defaults. Validation: 86/86 unit-test executables passed; focused tests passed with two MPI ranks.
