"Where there is a shell, There is a way"

Hey 👋

My name is Noam Alum, a Senior Platform Engineer with a background spanning platform engineering, DevOps, release engineering, networking, QA automation, and Linux infrastructure.

Back in my first year of high school, I never imagined I'd be interested in Linux, networking, or software engineering, but when I asked my dad for a job at his office, he didn't hand me a broom or filing cabinet. Instead, he handed me a stack of papers and a challenge:

"Complete these tasks and you're hired."

Note

If I remember correctly, the first challenge was building a LAMP server and deploying WordPress on it.

At the time, he was running a web hosting company called JetServer, and Linux quickly became a major part of my learning journey, career, and eventually my life. That early exposure sparked a passion for open-source technologies, infrastructure, and automation that continues to shape my work today.

What now?

Fast forward to today, and I've had the privilege of working across multiple disciplines within the technology industry.

I began my professional journey at JetServer Cloud LTD, where I spent nearly four years working as a System Administrator. During that time, I developed and managed Linux-based infrastructure, automated operational workflows, and built the foundation for my passion for reliability, scalability, and infrastructure automation.

Later, I joined JetApps, where I helped build and maintain the CI/CD infrastructure that powered automated QA testing across the JetBackup 5 release lifecycle. Working closely with development and QA teams strengthened my understanding of software delivery, release engineering, and large-scale automation.

After completing my ICT and Networking studies with excellence, supported by the IDF, I joined the J6 & Cyber Defense Directorate. There, I participated in networking research focused on routing protocols and network optimization, before continuing as a Network Technician, managing and securing complex network infrastructures across multiple operational environments.

I later transitioned into the QA team at Maof (Erez), where I developed internal platforms and automation solutions that streamlined manual testing processes, leveraging Python, Ixia, and infrastructure automation technologies to improve testing efficiency and reliability.

Today, I serve as a Senior Platform Engineer at Suriq, where I architect and deliver the platforms that power software delivery, infrastructure automation, and operational resilience across the organization.

My work focuses on:

  • Internal Developer Platforms (IDP)
  • Release Engineering
  • Software Supply Chain Security
  • Infrastructure Automation
  • Cloud & Platform Operations
  • Disaster Recovery & Resilience Engineering
  • Developer Experience (DevEx)

I lead initiatives that enable engineering teams to build, deploy, and operate secure, scalable, and reliable services efficiently and at scale. My goal is to remove operational friction, improve platform reliability, and empower developers with self-service capabilities that accelerate software delivery.

Beyond my day-to-day work, I enjoy contributing technical content, sharing knowledge, and exploring new technologies. My passion for Linux and open source was heavily influenced by the AlmaLinux community, which remains an important part of my journey.
