Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Chores
    • Development environment startup now prepares CUDA compatibility before continuing with repository initialization and other setup steps.
  • Tests
    • Added GPU test coverage for libcudacxx and cudax using the maximum supported C++ standard.
    • Locality-domain tests no longer skip based on the CUDA driver version.

The devcontainer entrypoint adds CUDA compatibility setup. The override workflow adds a maximum-standard H100 test job for libcudacxx and cudax. The locality-domain test removes its driver-version skip.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift

important: Check host eligibility before enabling CUDA compatibility.

The latest-toolkit flag identifies the container toolkit, not a supported host GPU. On a host with a GPU outside NVIDIA’s forward-compatibility support, this script still installs and configures the compatibility libraries. CUDA applications can then fail instead of using the host driver. Check GPU and driver eligibility before installation, and leave the host driver configuration unchanged when the host is not eligible. (docs.nvidia.com)

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

important: Restore the runtime driver guard.

In a CTK 13.4 build, dev.__locality_domains() calls the 13.4 locality-domain driver API. Drivers below 13040 can fail this call, so the test fails instead of skipping. Restore the guard at this test boundary.

AI failure analysis

1. cuML SG_RF_TEST: nvforest forest_model::predict overload mismatch · 1 job

Explanation: cuML passes a raft::handle_t as the first argument, while the checked-out nvforest header exposes overloads accepting a CUDA stream or stream-pool callback. This indicates downstream cuML/nvforest API drift or unsynchronized main branches; the pull-request diff does not modify either downstream source or the implicated API.

Evidence:

2026-10-19T21:23:02.6467789Z /home/coder/cuml/cpp/tests/sg/rf_test.cu(947): error: no instance of overloaded function "nvforest::forest_model::predict" matches the argument list

- Build RAPIDS (optional) / rmm ucxx raft cuvs nvforest cuml: https://github.com/NVIDIA/cccl/actions/runs/39320236320/job/118293278302

Verify the exact cuML and nvforest revisions from the failure and reproduce only the SG_RF_TEST compilation. Inspect cpp/tests/sg/rf_test.cu around line 947 and nvforest/forest_model.hpp, then update the call to pass the stream or stream-pool form required by the checked-out forest_model::predict API instead of raft::handle_t, including the appropriate explicit adapter from the RAFT handle if available. If the incompatibility is a temporary cross-repository synchronization issue that cannot be fixed in CCCL, pin RAPIDS_nvforest_GIT_REPO or RAPIDS_cuml_GIT_REPO in .github/workflows/build-rapids.yml to a mutually compatible revision and document why; remove the pin once upstream main is synchronized. Validate the SG_RF_TEST target first, then rerun the focused RAPIDS group for rmm ucxx raft cuvs nvforest cuml.

2. MatX PrintTests: ignored-attributes warning promoted to error · 1 job

Explanation: GCC 14.3 warns about an attributed FILE function pointer used as a template argument in MatX PrintTests, and MatX's warning-as-error configuration makes it fatal. The failure is in MatX source at commit 11203c9847a3fefc3e98b3b27ea854893625933a; the pull-request diff does not modify MatX or the failing test.

Evidence:

Reproduce the MatX PrintTests compilation under CUDA 13.4 and GCC 14 using ci/matx/build_matx.sh, then inspect MatX test/00_io/PrintTests.cu around line 44. Replace the attributed libc function-pointer template argument with an attribute-free wrapper function object or lambda deleter while preserving cleanup behavior. If an upstream MatX change is not possible immediately, add a narrowly scoped temporary -Wno-error=ignored-attributes host-compiler option to the MatX CUDA build in ci/matx/build_matx.sh rather than disabling warnings globally. Build the test_00_io_PrintTests object or target first, then rerun the complete MatX integration build.
