[Feature]: Feature Request: Support DeepSeek and Third-Party Models via BYOK #142
Description
Problem / 你遇到的问题
I really like the workflow and Agent experience of MiniMax Code. I would like to suggest adding support for DeepSeek models, ideally through a general BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) / multi-provider system.
Why I need this
Different models have different strengths in real coding workflows.
I currently use MiniMax models for many coding tasks, but I also find DeepSeek particularly useful for some coding, debugging, reasoning, and long-running agent tasks.
At the moment, using DeepSeek requires switching to another coding client or tool. I would much rather stay inside MiniMax Code and use its Agent environment, project management, tools, and UI while being able to select DeepSeek for certain tasks.
Proposed solution / 期望方案
Suggested implementation
A simple first version could add a Models / Providers section in Settings:
MiniMax
- MiniMax M3
- Other MiniMax models
DeepSeek
- DeepSeek models
- User-provided API Key
- Custom Base URL, if possible
Users could then select a model for each conversation or project.
I don't think DeepSeek usage needs to be included in the MiniMax subscription. BYOK would be completely sufficient: users can pay for their own DeepSeek API usage, while MiniMax Code provides the coding environment, Agent system, tools, UI, and orchestration.
Even better: different models for different Agents
In the future, it would be extremely useful if MiniMax Code allowed different models to be assigned to different Agents.
For example:
- Main Agent → MiniMax M3
- Coding / debugging Agent → DeepSeek
- Code review Agent → another selected model
This would make the Agent Team feature much more powerful because users could combine the strengths of different models within the same project.
General OpenAI-compatible API support
If possible, instead of implementing only DeepSeek, I would suggest supporting a general OpenAI-compatible API provider.
Users could configure:
- Provider name
- API Key
- Base URL
- Model name
DeepSeek could be one of the officially supported presets.
This would make MiniMax Code much more flexible and could turn it into a general AI coding environment rather than a client limited to one model provider.
Minimum version I would already be very happy with
- DeepSeek API support
- User-provided API Key (BYOK)
- Model selection
- Per-chat or per-project model switching
Later versions could add:
- OpenAI-compatible custom providers
- Multiple model providers
- Different models for different Agents
- Automatic model routing
I would personally use MiniMax Code significantly more if this feature were available.
Thanks for considering it!

Good news: a large part of this exists today.
mcode provider addwith an OpenAI-compatible endpoint works for DeepSeek (--api-format openai-completions --base-url https://api.deepseek.com), and Anthropic-compatible endpoints are supported too. Seedocs/examples.mdin this repo.Per-agent / per-task model routing is also a tracked direction (#118, #124).

Closing as part of a backlog cleanup: this issue was filed more than a month ago against an older release, and the codebase has changed substantially since then. If it still reproduces on the latest version, please open a new issue with the current version and reproduction steps. Thank you for the report!
批量清理积压:该 issue 创建已超过一个月,针对的是较旧版本,代码已有较大变化。如果在最新版本上仍能复现,欢迎附上当前版本号和复现步骤重新提交 issue。感谢反馈!
