"abort() called" crashes while resizing window

On MC 1.8.9, when you resize the Minecraft window there is a chance that the game will crash.
The MacOS Crash Reporter doesn't give a lot of info, but the logs do.

I noticed this too, but on all LWJGL2 versions of Minecraft. It's totally random when it happens too, maybe some sort of race condition.

May also be related to a bug in 1.5.2 and below (the versions hit by the color inversion + stutter bug) where resizing the window causes the renderer, window included, to freeze
