feat(package-api): let a Package create its own Accounts and Characters - #625
Conversation
…racters A Package created its own Characters by writing a game_account row and calling Core's create_character from the auth root, which the Package API does not list. package_account::create_package_character creates a Character with no Session on an Account the Package owns. It shares the name, race and class Refusals of client creation through check_new_character. When every owned Account is full, it creates an Account without credentials and records the owner in the new private game_package_account table. A Core table keeps that record when the Package is disabled, and a new table publishes over a populated Realm as an additive migration. The installed-Package raw Character lookup budget drops from 4 to 2. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe change adds Package-owned Accounts for session-less Characters. It adds shared Character validation and insertion, a Package creation flow and debug reducer, gateway bindings, integration tests, and API and schema documentation. ChangesPackage Character Creation

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to Creating Package Characters can fail permanently for a Package whose generated Account name is already taken, and only once its owned Accounts are full. The case is narrow and fixable by choosing the next free suffix. Make the inventory heading match the new count.
Line 64 changes the recount comment to 287 tables. The heading at Line 57 still says "285 tables" and "128 public, 157 private". Update the heading so the document gives one count.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
The Account username can collide, so creation fails permanently for that Package.
The username is format!("{package_name}#{}", owned.len()). The suffix comes from the current count of ownership rows, not from a monotonic counter. Two cases cause a collision:
- An owned Account row is deleted while its
game_accountrow stays. The count then drops below the highest suffix already used. - An Account with the name
example#Nalready exists. For example, a Package created that Account earlier through the oldauthpath.
In both cases, try_insert fails on the #[unique] username constraint. Every later call returns the same name, so the Package cannot create more Characters after its owned Accounts are full. Retry with the next free suffix, or derive the suffix from a value that cannot repeat.

playerbots made its bot Accounts and Characters by itself. It wrote
game_accountrows and called Core'screate_characterfrom theauthroot, so it needed twopackage-api: exemptlines. Nothing recorded which Accounts belonged to the Package, and turning the Package off later needs to find them. This PR adds one Package API operation:
It creates a Character with no Session and returns its guid. I split the client creation path in
auth.rsintocheck_new_character(guid range,NAME_IN_USE,INVALID_RACE_CLASS) andinsert_new_character, so the client reducer and the Package operation run the same Refusals. The operation runs the checks before it touches an Account, so a Refusal writes nothing. The Character goes on the first Account the Package owns that has room under the 10-Character cap. When all of them are full, Core makes a new Account without credentials, named
<package>#<n>, and writes a row to the new private tablegame_package_account(account_id,package_name). I used a new Core table instead of a column ongame_accountfor three reasons. AStringcolumn cannot carry a default, so it could not be END-appended. A new table is an additive auto-migrate on a populated Realm. And a Core table keeps the owner when the Package is disabled, which matches the decision to keep bot Accounts as dormant offline Characters.Other changes:
package_accountjoins the listed roots inmodule/build.rsanddocs/package-api.md. The doc, CHANGELOG and CONTEXT.md ("Package-owned Account") describe the operation and the owner.debug_create_package_characterdrives the operation for the new durable testmodule/tests/package_account.rs. One case fills one Account, checks that the 11th Character opens a second owned Account, and checks that no Session appears. The other checks theNAME_IN_USEand Human Shaman Refusals and that neither one leaves an owned Account.src/mod.rsdrops from 4 to 2. The Account census and one re-read are gone from playerbots.Accounts that playerbots made before this change (
PLAYERBOT000and up) have no ownership row. New bots go on new owned Accounts, and the old ones keep their bots. Ticket 8 should cover those old Accounts if it needs them.Paired with LyraCoreProject/packages#70. Merge Core first, then the packages PR at once.
Checks run locally:
cargo fmt --all -- --check, workspace clippy with-D warnings, Module lib tests (1,748),package_api_lint(32) and Gateway tests pass.scripts/check-gateway-bindings.pyreports all 1,173 binding files current. Both new durable tests pass against a 2.7.1 standalone. With the packages branch installed, the Module compiles and passes 1,868 lib tests, and a temporary budget of 1 fails on the two remaining playerbots lookups. The playerbots role and personality durable suites spawn bots through the new operation and pass. The one failure there needs a CI-only baseline wasm.Made by Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code.
