A 1.12.1 player who wants a dungeon group uses the meeting stone at the dungeon entrance. The server keeps a queue per dungeon and team and puts waiting players into a party by role: one tank, one healer, three damage. LyraCore did nothing when a player used a stone. 1.12.1 has no LFG or LFM window (the only LFG widget is commented out of the stock FrameXML), so the stone queue is the whole feature.

Party membership is authoritative on Realm-core, so the queue lives there too. Seekers on different World Shards wait in one queue.

What this adds

  • The importer keeps each stone's level range and dungeon area in game_meeting_stone. The query response sends them, so the stone tooltip shows the range.
  • CMSG_MEETINGSTONE_JOIN: the Home Shard admits the Character at the stone (range, level, flight), then Realm-core queues the Character, or the whole Party when its leader uses the stone. A refused party JOIN answers SMSG_MEETINGSTONE_JOINFAILED (not leader, raid, full).
  • CMSG_MEETINGSTONE_LEAVE, CMSG_MEETINGSTONE_INFO and MSG_LOOKING_FOR_GROUP (answered with 0, as vmangos does).
  • Matching runs in the transaction that changes the queue. Five Seekers for one dungeon and team form a Party led by the longest wait. A queued Party takes Stone Adds for its Open Roles. At five members every member hears COMPLETE, then SETQUEUE(0, NONE). A queued Party hears IN_PROGRESS every 5 minutes.
  • The group cores keep the queue in step with the roster: leave, kick, disband, invite into a queued Party.
  • A solo Seeker lasts as long as its Account Claim. A Transfer does not end the claim, so a Seeker should stay queued across shards; the durable test stages the move (see Verification), and the client check covers the real Transfer. Logout drops it silently.
  • The Roster Revision Relay pushes any party Realm-core changes to each World Shard whose mirror is behind. A Stone Add changes parties the acting Character is not in, so the actor-scoped push of party::run cannot do it.
  • The group event relay now delivers one transaction's rows to each recipient in insert order. The SDK fires a transaction's inserts in hash order. Without the fix, the new durable test failed 3 of 3 runs: a filled Party could hear SETQUEUE(0, NONE) before COMPLETE. The relay reads the event cache only for a recipient with a session, once per transaction.
  • A Stone Add never commits half done. The join core is split into plan_join, which checks and writes nothing, and JoinPlan::apply, which cannot fail. A Stone Add sends MEMBER_ADDED and drops the Seeker row only after its plan holds. The bucket pass drops a party row whose Group is gone or is a Raid, so one stale row cannot block every JOIN in its bucket.

Maintainer decisions

  • Meeting stones only. No LFG window and no Package addon window.
  • Humans only. JOIN refuses a Character without a World Session. Playerbots join a stone Party by ordinary invite, and the Party counts their class.
  • A queued Party that converts to a Raid leaves the queue with LEAVE_QUEUE. Both cmangos and vmangos keep it queued, but they refuse a Raid at JOIN, and a queued Raid would keep taking Stone Adds past the five roles.

Other choices to review

  • Accepting an invite that forms a new Party drops the inviter's solo Seeker row and sends it LEAVE_QUEUE. Both cores keep that leader queued. This follows "joining any party drops the solo Seeker", the cmangos rule we use so a grouped Character is never matched into a second party.
  • On a single-database realm, ACCEPT refuses a missing inviter Character (InviterUnavailable) and a missing acceptor Character (NoSuchPlayer) again. The join core refactor had dropped both. They run after the join checks, so main's refusal order holds: NoPendingInvite, AlreadyInGroup, the Group checks, then these two. They read through character_by_guid, so a Character in transit is refused too, where main's raw lookup accepted one. That matches the fence tripwire. The checks run in the accept path only, so a Stone Add on Realm-core still writes a zero member identity.
  • A kicked member without a live Account Claim, such as a playerbot or an offline Character, only leaves the queue with its Party, as in cmangos (if (player)). Only a Character with a World Session waits alone after a kick.
  • ACCEPT no longer conveys the acceptor's race. The Module reads only the class.
  • A bucket pass that fails inside remove_member is logged and the removal commits, because a Character delete sweep runs that path. On JOIN or ACCEPT the same failure rolls the call back. After the stale-row cleanup above, a pass on consistent state cannot fail. A full queued Party is completed, not dequeued, so its members still hear COMPLETE.
  • Packages cannot author meeting stones yet. game_meeting_stone is not in the Package Delta gameobjects family.

Deploy notes

  • init arms the 5 s reminder schedule. On a live database, run debug_repair_after_publish after the publish, or queued Parties never hear IN_PROGRESS.
  • Re-import the gameobjects family, or game_meeting_stone stays empty and every stone stays silent.
  • The Roster Revision Relay logs an error and stays off if Realm-core is unavailable when the Gateway starts. A panicking relay pass is logged and the relay keeps running.

CI: workflow lines the maintainer must push

The agent token cannot push .github/workflows/*. Please add these two lines to .github/workflows/module-durable.yml, step "Run the Gateway ownership and durable projection regressions", after the character_gone_durable_tests line:

          cargo test -p lyracore-gateway --bin lyracore-gateway stdb::subscriptions::roster_relay_durable_tests::a_roster_change_made_only_on_realm_core_reaches_every_world_shard_mirror -- --ignored --exact
          cargo test -p lyracore-gateway --bin lyracore-gateway stdb::subscriptions::meeting_stone_durable_tests::seekers_on_two_world_shards_form_one_party_that_reaches_every_mirror -- --ignored --exact

The new Module durable tests (meeting_stone_queue, meeting_stone_matching) need no edit. The workflow finds them by itself.

Verification

  • New Gateway durable test: Seekers on two World Shards. It proves one five-member Party on Realm-core with tank, healer and damage placed, no Seeker or party row left, both mirrors at Realm-core's Roster Revision, and each session's stone events in insert order. One Seeker moves into the Instance Pool after it queued, and INFO from there answers JOINED. The test stages that move by restaging the Character on the Instance Pool and deleting it from the World Shard. It does not run the real Transfer path, because the bot Transfer path refuses a Character with a live session.
  • New Module durable tests: a stale party row leaves the queue and the JOIN that meets it still forms its Party (fails without the cleanup), and a kicked member without a live claim does not wait alone.
  • The T2 roster relay and character-gone Gateway durable tests pass.
  • Module durable tests: meeting_stone_queue 6/6, meeting_stone_matching 18/18, and the group, raid, claim and sessionless suites pass.
  • cargo test for the gateway (1963 passed), the module lib (1743 passed), lyracore-shared and lyracore-importer.
  • cargo clippy -p lyracore-shared -p lyracore-module -p lyracore-gateway -p lyracore-importer -p lyracore-package-delta --all-targets --all-features -- -D warnings, the Module wasm check, scripts/check-gateway-bindings.py and ./lyracore preflight are clean.
  • lyracore-package-delta quest_identifiers fails 2 tests (quest_type column absent). It fails the same way on main at 5fd77c1, so the failure is not from this branch.

Human check (outstanding)

docs/meeting-stone-client-check.md holds the steps for a real 5875 client. Nothing here ran against a realm. The check covers:

  • Using a stone sends CMSG_MEETINGSTONE_JOIN, not CMSG_GAMEOBJ_USE.
  • The stone tooltip shows its level range, and the client refuses an out-of-range level itself.
  • The minimap button appears on JOINED, its tooltip names the dungeon, and its confirm sends LEAVE.
  • INFO answers after a loading screen and after a Transfer.
  • The JOINFAILED lines and every status line render.
  • A party JOIN notifies a member on another shard.
  • Logout drops a solo Seeker silently.
  • Converting a queued Party to a Raid drops the button.
  • A stone-formed Party's frame, /p and XP split work across two shards.

Add go_type::MEETINGSTONE (23) and lyracore_shared::meeting_stone: the
realm_meeting_stone_op bytes, the SETQUEUE status and JOINFAILED reason
bytes, the tagged MeetingStoneRefusal, the group event kinds 27 to 30 and
the QUEUE payload. ACCEPT now documents arg_a as class and arg_b as race.
A test pins every game_group_event kind as distinct.

A type-23 template imports in the inert shape, which dropped data0 to
data2. Every spawned stone now also gets a game_meeting_stone row with
the dump's minimum level, maximum level and area. The gameobjects family
clears and reloads it and counts it in its provenance stamp.

gw_admit_meeting_stone checks a Character at a stone on its Home Shard:
World Session, no taxi flight, the shared GameObject Gate, type 23 with a
stone row, and the stone's level range. realm_meeting_stone_op queues a
lone Character or the Party its leader leads on the party authority, with
cmangos's not-leader, raid and full-party Refusals, and answers LEAVE per
cmangos. A solo Seeker ends where its Account Claim ends; the claim code
now ends Chat Channel membership and the solo Seeker through one helper.

Debug fixtures stage stones, Characters with live claims, groups and
backdated queue times. Bindings regenerated with the danger-zones hand
patches.

A dispatch_meeting_stone_action seam handles CMSG_MEETINGSTONE_JOIN,
_LEAVE, _INFO and MSG_LOOKING_FOR_GROUP. JOIN is admitted on the Home
Shard, then queued on Realm-core with the race and class of the actor or
of every party member. A refused party JOIN answers JOINFAILED. The group
event relay renders kinds 27 to 30. A stone's query response carries its
level range and area. The Realm-core ACCEPT now conveys the acceptor's
class and race for a client and for a playerbot.

The party table has no Character guid, so only the Seeker table belongs in
NOT_CHARACTER_OWNED. Widening checked_group_membership also widens its
error type.

The bucket pass runs in every transaction that can create a match. A
queued Party takes Stone Adds for its Open Roles, longest wait first,
and five solo Seekers in one area and team form a Party. Each Stone Add
goes through the new join core, which the accepted invite now uses too.

The group cores keep a queued Party's queue state in step with its
roster: accept, leave, deletion, kick, disband and raid convert. A
5 s reminder tick sends IN_PROGRESS to a waiting Party every five
minutes.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
A priest fills damage, so criterion 3 needs a party with only its
healer open. ACCEPT's race is not read. Raid convert has no
single-database reducer.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
party::run pushes only the acting Character's parties, so a roster change
Realm-core makes for a party no actor belongs to never reached the mirrors.

The Roster Revision Relay watches game_group_roster_revision on the
Realm-core connection. Its callbacks mark the party dirty; one worker per
Gateway pushes each dirty party to every World Shard whose mirror holds an
older revision or none, through sync_group_mirrors_required's retries. A
new held_roster_revision read tells a missing row from revision 1.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
…ts in order

The SDK fires one transaction's group event inserts in hash order, so a
filled stone party could hear SETQUEUE(0, NONE) before COMPLETE. The first
callback of a transaction now relays every row of that transaction for its
recipient, in id order, once per source database.

A Gateway durable test stages Seekers on two World Shards, moves one into
the Instance Pool, and proves one stone-formed party on Realm-core, both
mirrors at Realm-core's Roster Revision, and each session's stone events in
insert order. A Realm-core claim lever stages the split.

The single-database ACCEPT refuses a missing inviter or acceptor Character
again. ACCEPT no longer conveys race, which the Module never read.

Docs: architecture, schema, glossary, changelog and the client check.

Code review: meeting stones (#605)

Fixed point: main...702f090. Spec: issue #532 and its T1 to T4 planning tickets (.claude/tickets/issue-532/, as of 702f090^). Generated bindings were not reviewed.

Priority: P1 must fix, P2 should fix, P3 nit or judgement call.

Standards

No hard violations. The diff has no em dashes, no _Avoid_ words and no new issue references in comments. CONTEXT.md defines the new terms: Meeting Stone, Meeting Stone Queue, Seeker, Open Role, Stone Add and Roster Revision Relay. Architecture, schema and client-check docs are updated.

Judgement calls (baseline smells):

  • P2, possible Middle Man. gateway/src/world/handlers/meeting_stone.rs:33-95: four of the six MeetingStoneActionStore methods forward in one line to Coordinator (admit_meeting_stone, meeting_stone_area, meeting_stone_op, queued_area). The trait has a Fake, so it is a real seam under CODING_STANDARDS "Interface depth and seams". Check whether the existing Store seam could carry these methods instead of a new trait that copies Coordinator.
  • P2, possible Primitive Obsession. meeting_stone_op(actor_guid, op: u8, area_id, seekers) and the bare u8 status / event_kind in module/src/meeting_stone.rs (push_queue(ctx, recipient_guid, area_id, status: u8)). The handler already has enum Action. An enum would keep transitions exhaustive, per CODING_STANDARDS "Prefer exhaustive state transitions". This is a nit if the u8 values must stay as wire or schema values.
  • P3, possible Mysterious Name / Duplicated Code. A free function seeker_facts and the trait method seeker_facts share one name and build the same SeekerFacts { character_guid, race, class } projection.
  • P3, possible Divergent Change. module/src/meeting_stone.rs (1208 lines) holds tables, admission, queue ops, matching (role_priority, open_roles, formation, next_stone_add), reminders and party lifecycle hooks. Matching is pure, so it could move to its own module with its own tests.
  • P3, comment density. AGENTS.md says to match the surrounding code's idiom, "not its comment density". module/src/meeting_stone.rs has about 158 comment lines with cm:LFG/... citations. The importer DATA2 doc has the same problem. Cut them to the constraint each one explains.
  • P3, possible Feature Envy. membership_of (module/src/meeting_stone.rs:271) and party_class read group tables. They may belong in group.rs.

Spec

Almost everything matches T1 to T4. These were checked and found correct: event order before the roster LIST on kick, leave, disband and raid convert; Roster Revisions on a Stone Add; the revision row survives a disband; the shared claim_ended helper; GroupEventCursor ordering; docs and CHANGELOG.

  • P3, partial: ACCEPT no longer carries race. T1 AC12: "The Realm-core ACCEPT carries the acceptor's class and race". gateway/src/world/party.rs Op::realm_args sends (ACCEPT, 0, class, 0, 0), and AcceptorFacts has no race. T3 says the core does not read race, so no behaviour is lost and the PR body names the choice. Amend the spec or restore arg_b.
  • P3, scope creep: the bucket pass deletes solo rows of grouped Characters. read_bucket in module/src/meeting_stone.rs deletes a solo Seeker if group::group_of(..) is set. T3 only asks to delete Seekers without a live claim. This is harmless because party_joined keeps the same invariant, but it can hide a hook that fails to drop the row.
  • P3, scope creep: ACCEPT refusal order changed. accept_invite_on in module/src/group.rs now runs the fenced character_by_guid checks before AlreadyInGroup, so an acceptor who is in transit or missing now gets NoSuchPlayer first. No ticket asks for this, and the PR body does not mention the new order.
  • Note, not a finding: spawn_roster_revision_relay does not arm if realm_core() is unhealthy at startup (T2 AC6). It follows the existing spawn_character_gone_relay pattern.

Summary: Standards has 6 judgement calls and no hard violations; the worst is P2, the forwarding MeetingStoneActionStore. Spec has 3 findings, all P3, and no P1; the worst is ACCEPT dropping race, which goes against T1 AC12.

Check complete before comparing the heard events.

The test discards a timeout from poll_until and then compares session.heard with the expected events. If the poll times out, the assertion failure shows the partial or out-of-order list. It does not report that the wait timed out. Move assert!(complete, ...) before the loop, or include complete in the message. The order of the checks changes only the diagnostics.

A bucket pass that failed inside remove_member is logged and its writes
commit, so a MEMBER_ADDED could go out for a member who never joined. The
join core now splits into plan_join, which checks and writes nothing, and
JoinPlan::apply, which cannot fail. A Stone Add writes its events and drops
the Seeker row only after its plan holds, and the pass drops a party row
whose Group is gone or is a Raid, so one stale row no longer blocks every
JOIN in its bucket.

ACCEPT keeps main's refusal order: the restored missing-Character checks
run after the join checks. A kicked member without a live Account Claim
only leaves the queue.

The group event relay reads the cache only for a recipient with a session,
once per transaction. The Roster Revision Relay logs when it cannot arm and
survives a panicking pass.

Thanks for both reviews. The fixes are in 9413cd2 and 67e7221, and main (#604) is merged in.

@coderabbitai, the durable test nit is fixed in 67e7221. The per-session assertion message now says whether the wait timed out.

On the code review:

  • ACCEPT refusal order (P3). Fixed. The join checks now run first (plan_join), then the restored InviterUnavailable and NoSuchPlayer. That is main's order. The PR body names the one difference: a Character in transit is refused, which matches the fence tripwire.
  • ACCEPT drops race (P3, T1 AC12). Kept on purpose. Neither core reads race on ACCEPT, so sending it was dead data on the wire. The PR body names the choice. I propose amending the spec instead of restoring arg_b.
  • read_bucket deletes solo rows of grouped Characters (P3). Kept. A grouped Character in the solo bucket could be matched into a second Party, and plan_join would then refuse it mid-pass. The pass now also drops a party row whose Group is gone or is a Raid, so a pass on consistent state cannot fail.
  • MeetingStoneActionStore forwarding, u8 statuses, file split, comment density, Feature Envy (P2/P3 judgement calls). Not changed in this PR. The trait is the house seam shape (ChannelActionStore has the same forwarding, with a Fake). The status and kind bytes are wire values pinned in lyracore_shared::meeting_stone. A split of meeting_stone.rs and trimming the citations can follow on their own, without behavior change.
  • Relay arming (note). It still follows the spawn_character_gone_relay pattern, but it now logs an error when Realm-core is unavailable at startup, and a panicking pass no longer ends the relay.

@Mathih13, thanks for the fixes and guidance.

  • Durable-test nit: Verified at 67e72212. The per-session assertion now includes wait timed out: {} with !complete. This addresses my finding.
  • ACCEPT refusal order: Verified that plan_join runs before the InviterUnavailable and NoSuchPlayer checks.
  • ACCEPT race: Amending T1 AC12 is appropriate if neither core consumes race. Keep class in arg_a and document that arg_b remains unused.
  • Bucket cleanup: Your rationale supports keeping the cleanup. Removing stale entries before matching prevents those entries from causing a mid-pass refusal.
  • Design judgement calls: The existing seam pattern and pinned wire bytes justify leaving these unchanged in this PR. The file split and citation cleanup can remain separate changes.
  • Relay: Verified the startup error log and panic handling around each pass. This preserves the worker after a pass panics. It does not add startup recovery when Realm-core is unavailable.

This was source inspection only. I did not run tests.

Would you like a follow-up issue for the file split and citation cleanup?

Learning: In LyraCore's Rust Gateway, MeetingStoneActionStore in gateway/src/world/handlers/meeting_stone.rs follows the house ActionStore seam pattern, like ChannelActionStore, with Coordinator forwarding and a Fake for tests. Forwarding alone is not sufficient reason to flag this trait as a Middle Man.

Learning: LyraCore intentionally sends only the acceptor's class for Realm-core ACCEPT in gateway/src/world/party.rs: class uses arg_a and arg_b remains zero. Neither core consumes race on ACCEPT, so restoring race would transmit unused data.

Learning: In module/src/meeting_stone.rs, read_bucket intentionally removes solo Seeker rows for grouped Characters and queued party rows whose Group is missing or is a Raid. This cleanup prevents stale queue entries from causing a Stone Add refusal during matching.

Move the pure role and matching code into meeting_stone/matching.rs with
its unit tests, unchanged. The group read the JOIN and LEAVE ops need is
now group::group_with_members. The Gateway's party-wide fact read is
facts_for_join, so it no longer shares a name with the Store method.
Comments on new code keep only the constraint they explain and one source
pointer per concept.

Follow-up on the remaining P3 judgement calls, in 4bf6bc2. Behavior is unchanged.

  • Divergent Change. The pure matching code (role_priority, open_roles, next_stone_add, formation) and its unit tests now live in module/src/meeting_stone/matching.rs. meeting_stone.rs became meeting_stone/mod.rs.
  • Comment density. New comments in the Module, importer and Gateway files keep only the constraint they explain, with one source pointer per concept. meeting_stone dropped from about 158 to 93 comment lines across the two files.
  • Duplicate name. The Gateway's party-wide read is now facts_for_join. seeker_facts is only the one-Seeker Store method.
  • Feature Envy. membership_of moved to group::group_with_members. party_class reads the Seeker table, so it stays in meeting_stone.

The forwarding Store seam and the u8 wire values stay, as discussed above.
