Party membership and contact mutations treated system failures as ordinary gameplay refusals. Shared GroupRefusal and ContactRefusal tags now carry known outcomes across the Module and Coordinator. Timeouts, unknown results and transport failures propagate to end the World Session.

A GroupMember that points to no Group is an invariant failure and remains untagged. Taxi flight remains a typed ActorUnavailable refusal for party and contact actions. Client mappings keep the existing vanilla result codes. Party chat retains its documented best-effort delivery policy.

The durable regression checks all 23 taxi entrypoints across trainer, item, loot, party and contacts. It checks Operator and missing-Actor failures at all seven loot entries, four other missing-Actor cases, and six broken Group-reference cases across invite, accept, leave, uninvite and loot-method changes. These checks verify rollback and unchanged valid Group state. Each run uses a fresh loopback SpacetimeDB instance, private CLI configuration and a private copy of the Wasm artifact reported by Cargo. Both CARGO_TARGET_DIR and CARGO_BUILD_TARGET_DIR configurations were verified.

Verified with 1,353 Gateway tests, shared tag round trips, client mappings, Gateway refusal and timeout tests, and the combined durable regression. After ./lyracore preflight, run the opt-in SpacetimeDB test: cargo test -p lyracore-module --test typed_taxi_contracts -- --ignored --nocapture.

Review fixes and durable regression by GPT-6 and GPT-5.6 Sol through Codex.

Review Change Stack

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The change replaces reducer error strings with typed GroupRefusal and ContactRefusal contracts. Module operations serialize typed refusals, gateway layers propagate structured outcomes, and client mappings and tests handle refusals separately from operational errors.

Changes

Typed refusal flow

Layer / File(s) Summary
Shared refusal contracts
crates/lyracore-shared/src/group.rs, crates/lyracore-shared/src/social.rs, crates/lyracore-shared/src/lib.rs
Adds typed group and contact refusal enums with stable tags, parsing, complete variant lists, and round-trip tests.
Module typed operations
module/src/group.rs, module/src/chat.rs, module/src/gw.rs
Group and contact operations return typed refusals internally and serialize them at reducer boundaries. Realm operations use typed cores. Actor resolvers apply domain-specific refusal tags.
Gateway operation outcomes
gateway/src/world/party.rs, gateway/src/world/store.rs, gateway/src/stdb/world_store.rs, gateway/src/stdb/reducers.rs
Gateway operations propagate structured party, contact, loot, item, and trainer outcomes while preserving operational errors.
Gateway social mapping
gateway/src/world/social.rs, gateway/src/world/handlers/query.rs
Maps typed refusals to party, friend, and ignore client results. Party chat handles GroupRefusal::NotInGroup explicitly.
Combat and subscription relays
gateway/src/stdb/subscriptions.rs, gateway/src/world/mod.rs
Combat relays separate ranged launches from impact damage. Bot and character-removal relays treat only PartyOutcome::Ran as success. World startup receives a shared login queue.
Typed outcome validation
gateway/src/world/tests.rs, gateway/src/world/party_tests.rs
Tests party, contact, loot, item, trainer, and skinning outcomes, including unknown errors and timeout behavior.
Standalone contract coverage
module/tests/support/mod.rs, module/tests/typed_taxi_contracts.rs
Adds configured standalone CLI support and an ignored end-to-end test for typed taxi refusals, boundary errors, and invariant failures.

Estimated code review effort: 4 (Complex) | ~60 minutes

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to a0c48

Party-chat regression coverage currently encodes the wrong taxi behavior, and players revealed after Stealth can still miss aura state. These should be resolved before merge; the prior ranged-impact thread concern no longer applies.

Propagate non-refusal party_chat errors

Coordinator::party_chat returns Err for timeout, transport/SDK failure, or an unrecognized reducer error. This handler logs that error and returns success, so a reachable /p failure is swallowed and the World Session continues. Return the error while retaining the NotInGroup mapping to SMSG_PARTY_COMMAND_RESULT.

Kept party chat error handling as documented. WorldStore::party_chat specifies that NotInGroup receives a client result and other failures are dropped like rejected say/yell lines. The handler and socket regression preserve that policy. Party chat is a best-effort notification and does not change durable membership or contact state. A chat timeout should therefore not end an otherwise healthy World Session. The PR description now states this scope explicitly.

1730-1731: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Send the aura snapshot after a stealth reveal.

A hidden peer is absent from created, so this branch skips aura_sync. The later stealth_visibility call re-creates that peer on the last stealth deletion, but build_peer_create has no Aura rows to encode. The observer then misses all remaining non-stealth auras that changed while the peer was hidden.

After stealth_visibility, re-check created and enqueue aura_sync when the reveal succeeded. Add a regression test with a peer that retains a non-stealth aura after Stealth ends.

Use bounded delayed-delivery scheduling.

Each delayed ranged impact creates one operating-system thread. Concurrent ranged combat can accumulate sleeping threads until memory or thread limits degrade the gateway.

Use a shared timer queue or a bounded executor, then keep world_view::enqueue as the session-lifetime delivery step.

Resolve the artifact path from Cargo instead of reconstructing it.

If Cargo uses build.target-dir, CARGO_BUILD_TARGET_DIR, or CARGO_TARGET_DIR, this helper can read the wrong path and report the Wasm preflight output is missing. Use cargo metadata --format-version 1 --no-deps to obtain target_directory, or consume the artifact path from Cargo’s JSON build messages.

The delayed ranged thread finding is addressed by merged #431. Current ranged launch rows carry zero damage, so the removed delayed branch was unreachable. The Module still emits the authoritative impact log; a new timer queue would preserve dead code.

The stealth-reveal finding is valid. It is outside this party/contact change and will get a separate fix and packet regression. The existing reconnect snapshot already performs reveal before aura synchronization; the live aura-delete path needs the same ordering.

I am also correcting the private fixture’s artifact lookup to use Cargo’s resolved output, so custom build target directories work without an environment override.

Mathih13 and others added 8 commits September 5, 2026 01:10
The friends, ignore and party paths matched the Module's error prose to pick a
client result code, so a reducer timeout reached the client as a gameplay answer.
Two shared enums now define the contract: `GroupRefusal` in `lyracore_shared::group`
(replacing the `err` string constants) and `ContactRefusal` in a new
`lyracore_shared::social`. Module cores return the enum, the reducer edge sends only
the tag, and the Gateway parses a tag only from a reducer the Module rejected.

Fixed the artifact lookup in a0c484d, rebased on current main after #431 merged. The fixture now reads the exact Module Wasm filename from Cargo’s compiler-artifact JSON. It no longer reconstructs Cargo’s target-directory precedence. Both the normal CARGO_TARGET_DIR run and a run with only CARGO_BUILD_TARGET_DIR passed against fresh private Standalone instances, following offline preflight. An independent review found no issue with the artifact selection or diagnostics.

The rebased production tree matches the already verified combined candidate; only this fixture lookup changed. The aura-reveal correction is being implemented separately and will also cover ordinary AOI entry, which shares the incomplete peer-creation path.

The outside-diff aura finding is fixed in #432. The shared peer-creation path now supplies current source-Shard auras on both ordinary AOI entry and stealth reveal. The new packet regression reproduced the old CREATE-only output; the corrected combined Gateway suite passes 1,389 tests. That PR is undergoing its own CI and CodeRabbit review before merge.
