Item actions treated every failed Durable Request as an inventory refusal, including timeouts with unknown results. The Module and Coordinator now use a shared ItemRefusal contract. Known refusals produce the existing inventory failure packet, while transport failures and unknown results end the World Session.

Equip, unequip, move and use preserve taxi flight as NotRightNow. Operator failures and missing Actors remain fatal. The Gateway no longer searches human error text to decide the client outcome.

Verified with shared tag and client-code coverage, Module item Gate tests, Gateway item outcome and timeout tests, and an isolated cargo check -p lyracore-gateway --tests. The review fix is rebased onto main at a447495; CI runs the full checks.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added clearer, categorized feedback for item actions, including equip, unequip, move, use, split, and banking operations.
    • Inventory failures now provide specific reasons such as missing items, invalid slots, full inventory, eligibility restrictions, unavailable banks, and timing limitations.
    • Client responses now map item-action refusals to the appropriate inventory failure notifications.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Improved handling of blocked item actions and reducer timeouts while preserving fatal errors for unexpected failures.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The change introduces typed item-operation refusals, canonical refusal tags, reducer result handling, and client inventory failure mapping. Item operations preserve refusal categories while gateway handlers distinguish gameplay refusals from transport, timeout, and other fatal errors.

Changes

Typed item refusal flow

Layer / File(s) Summary
Item refusal contract
crates/lyracore-shared/src/item.rs
Defines twelve ItemRefusal variants, canonical tags, exact parsing, and round-trip tests.
Item operation refusal production
module/src/items/*, module/src/gw.rs, module/src/debug/mod.rs
Classifies inventory and item-use failures as typed refusals. Gateway and debug operations convert refusals to reducer-facing strings.
Gateway reducer result conversion
gateway/src/stdb/reducers.rs, gateway/src/world/tests.rs
Returns ItemActionResult, converts recognized refusal tags, and preserves timeout, transport, unrelated, and text-only errors as failures.
Client refusal response handling
gateway/src/codec/item.rs, gateway/src/world/handlers/*, gateway/src/world/mod.rs
Maps typed refusals to inventory failure packets. Dispatchers, stores, exports, and tests use the typed result contract.

The item flow handles pre-login requests without ending the World Session, as covered by the current contract and test.

The Module refused an item Durable Request with a free-form `Result<(), String>`
and the Gateway called any error without "reducer transport disconnected" a
gameplay refusal. A 10 second reducer timeout therefore reached the client as
`SMSG_INVENTORY_CHANGE_FAILURE` while the Module could still commit the move.

One shared `ItemRefusal` enum now defines the contract. Every equip, unequip,
move, split and use core returns it; the reducer edge sends only the tag and
keeps the human detail in the Module log. The Gateway parses a tag only from a
reducer the Module rejected, so a timeout or transport failure stays an error
with an unknown outcome and ends the session. Each Refusal reaches the client as
its own vanilla inventory result instead of one generic popup.
