favor of explicit calls from the Store and the Daemon. This eliminates all the optional arguments from Item.__init__().

The primary addition here is a thoroughly untested example for a basic heater controller. This thought experiment motivated cleanup of how an Item gets instantiated, which is also included here, as well as some additional hooks in the Daemon class to streamline how item descriptions can be declared as authoritative, and how a custom configuration file might be parsed.
Expansion of the examples also motivated the use of subdirectories; the existing KTL example was thus put into its own subdirectory.
