Summary

  • Permission mode by what the pipeline does. The skill and the /convoy-* commands read the first line of convoy pipelines show: read-only → --yolo, writes code → --smart. Read-only steps can't edit the repository, have no shell unless they verify, still hit the hard denylist, and fail if they change the repository, so a review no longer hands control back to the session for every request. A mode the user asks for wins; a project pipeline that replaces review/hunter with writing steps falls back to --smart plus a confirmation.
  • Detached, followed in the background. Launches always use --detach; the agent hands the session back with the run id and an estimate, then follows the run with a backgrounded convoy runs <id> --wait (Claude Code) or spaced short waits elsewhere, instead of blocking on foreground waits.
  • The pipeline command template gains a {{permissions}} placeholder (permissionsReadOnly / permissionsWrites in src/skill-install.ts); docs/agents.md and the pipeline-file reference follow.

The CLI's own defaults are unchanged.

Test plan

  • bun test (3962 tests), including a new check that review/hunter commands pass --yolo, the rest --smart, and every command launches with --detach
  • bun run typecheck

…ed in the background

The skill and the pipeline commands pick the permission mode from what the
pipeline does: `convoy pipelines show` says read-only → --yolo, writes code →
--smart. A read-only step can't edit the repository, has no shell unless it
verifies, still hits the hard denylist, and fails if it changes the
repository, so a review no longer stops the session for each request. A mode
the user asks for wins; a project pipeline that replaces a read-only built-in
with writing steps falls back to --smart and a confirmation.

Launches are always detached, and the agent hands the session back with the
run id and an estimate, then follows the run in the background (a
backgrounded `convoy runs <id> --wait` in Claude Code, spaced short waits
elsewhere) instead of blocking on foreground waits.
