Dear Partners,
NOAA’s National Ocean Service (NOS) is embarking on a significant initiative to modernize and consolidate our coastal and ocean modeling systems. Our goal is to transition toward an authoritative, nationwide, state-of-the-art modeling suite that is more efficient, resilient, and better integrated with NOAA’s broader Unified Forecast System (UFS).
As we move forward with this transformation, collaboration with our partners in academia and private industry is essential. We are committed to a transparent, community-driven process, and your technical and strategic insights are vital to ensuring we build a system that meets the evolving needs of coastal communities.
To facilitate this, we have released a Request for Information (RFI) to gather community feedback on:
Technical Capabilities: Information on model readiness, including compatibility with high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud environments, as well as opportunities for integrating advanced methods like ML/AI.
Strategic Vision: Perspectives on long-term design, community governance, and workflows that will strengthen our operational forecasting capabilities.
We invite you to review the RFI details and contribute your expertise. Your input will directly inform our evaluation of core model candidates and help guide our path toward a more resilient future.
