Installing ExtraBrain on macOS currently requires a manual PATH export before the command is available. Configure zsh and bash startup files during the user-local native installation so users run the installer, open a new terminal, and check the version separately. The default needs no administrator password, Node, or Python.

  • Preserve existing shell configuration, avoid duplicate PATH blocks, and support an opt-out and custom destinations.

  • Keep installation for all accounts as an explicit option. Preserve checksum verification and atomic executable replacement.

  • Update the running packaged executable in its existing directory and report installer diagnostics without corrupting JSON output.

  • Add end-to-end coverage and separate installation/version checks in CI for both macOS architectures, including the optional system-wide installation.

  • Give the installer replacement and large export integration tests explicit 30-second budgets for slower macOS runners.

Validation: executable build and typechecking pass; 184 tests pass with the Windows-only test skipped on macOS. Packaged update and session export tests ran against the same built executable. Shell syntax, workflow YAML, and diff checks pass.
