Overview

This PR adds support for 32-byte hexadecimal memos on MEMO_HASH and MEMO_RETURN deposits in the routing extractor. Previously these memo types were always flagged as MEMO_TEXT_UNROUTABLE, blocking cross-chain bridges and institutional custodians that use 32-byte hex hashes as deposit identifiers. An opt-in allowHashRouting flag now lets callers validate and route these deposits.

Changes

🔀 Routing Extraction

  • [MODIFY] packages/core-ts/src/routing/extract.ts
    • extractRouting accepts an optional allowHashRouting: boolean configuration flag.
    • When enabled, MEMO_HASH / MEMO_RETURN memos are validated as 32-byte hex strings (64 characters).
    • Valid hashes set routingSource = "memo" and return the normalized lowercase hex string as routingId.
    • Invalid or non-hex memos continue to be flagged as MEMO_TEXT_UNROUTABLE.

📚 Documentation

  • [MODIFY] docs/api-reference/extract-routing.mdx
    • Documents the new allowHashRouting flag, the 64-character hex validation rule, and the normalized lowercase routingId output for hash-based deposits.

Verification Results

npm test -- packages/core-ts/src/routing
✅ Hash memo routing covered: valid 64-char hex routes, invalid/non-hex memos remain unroutable
Acceptance Criteria Status
extractRouting accepts optional allowHashRouting flag ✅ Flag added to routing config
Valid 32-byte hex memos (64 chars) are routed ✅ routingSource = "memo" with normalized lowercase hex routingId
Invalid hash memos remain unroutable ✅ Non-hex / wrong-length memos still flagged MEMO_TEXT_UNROUTABLE
Behavior documented for integrators ✅ extract-routing.mdx updated with flag and validation rules

Closes #336

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added optional hash-based routing for hash and return memos. When enabled, valid 32-byte hexadecimal values are normalized to lowercase and used as routing IDs.
    • When hash routing is disabled or a value is invalid, the memo is flagged as unroutable with a relevant warning.
  • Documentation
    • Updated the routing reference to describe the option, routing source, and hash-routing behavior.

📝 Walkthrough

extractRouting now accepts optional hash-routing configuration. When enabled, it routes valid 32-byte hexadecimal MEMO_HASH and MEMO_RETURN values as lowercase routing IDs. The API reference documents the configuration, result field, and warnings.

Configure and extract hash memo routing
packages/core-ts/src/routing/extract.ts, docs/api-reference/extract-routing.mdx
extractRouting accepts optional allowHashRouting configuration. When enabled, it trims and validates hash and return memo values, then uses valid 64-character hexadecimal values as lowercase routing IDs. Otherwise, it adds a warning for disabled routing or an invalid format. The reference documents the input option, routingSource, and routing behavior.

Explanation

Issue #336 is directly linked. extractRouting now accepts an optional configuration object with allowHashRouting. When enabled, hash and return memos pass the exact 64-hex-character check, produce lowercase routingId, and set routingSource to memo. Invalid values and disabled hash routing produce MEMO_TEXT_UNROUTABLE.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Correct the hash-routing API example.

allowHashRouting belongs in the second extractRouting argument, not in RoutingInput. The example also uses address instead of destination, uppercase "HASH" instead of "hash", and a 61-character memo instead of a 64-character memo. A caller copying this example cannot obtain the documented routing result. Update the table and show a call with a valid destination, lowercase memo type, 64-character memo, and { allowHashRouting: true } as the second argument. (github.com)

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Validate the raw memo before routing.

If a 64-character hex memo has surrounding spaces, .trim() removes them and the memo routes. The raw memo is not a 64-character hexadecimal string, so it should remain unroutable under the stated validation rule. Test input.memoValue directly, then lowercase a valid value. (github.com)
