The daemon was DETACHED_PROCESS, so every console child it or the CLI spawned (renderdoc probe, taskkill, netstat, adb) opened its own visible console. The daemon now gets a hidden console instead, and those children run with CREATE_NO_WINDOW.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Windows subprocesses used for device checks, diagnostics, discovery, and session management now run without opening unwanted console windows.
    • Background process handling no longer relies on detached-process behavior, while retaining support for process groups.
    • Existing command behavior and timeout handling remain unchanged.

…n or probes

Saves a visible python.exe window per rdc call for example.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Subprocess calls now use platform-specific hidden-window kwargs. On Windows, popen_flags() uses CREATE_NO_WINDOW while retaining process-group and breakaway flags. Unit tests cover Windows flags and non-Windows kwargs.

Changes

Platform-specific subprocess flags

Layer / File(s) Summary
Define platform subprocess flags
src/rdc/_platform.py
On Windows, popen_flags() uses CREATE_NO_WINDOW with the process-group and breakaway flags. The new hidden_kwargs() returns the Windows creation flag or an empty dictionary on other platforms. Windows taskkill and netstat calls use these kwargs.
Apply flags to subprocess call sites
src/rdc/commands/android.py, src/rdc/commands/doctor.py, src/rdc/commands/session.py, src/rdc/discover.py, tests/unit/test_platform.py
Android, doctor, session, and discovery subprocess calls pass hidden_kwargs(). Tests check the Windows flags and non-Windows behavior.

Please return a TypedDict with an optional creationflags: int field here instead of dict[str, Any] to fix the mypy error at android.py:265; I verified that this change passes mypy.
