Fit expanded Mermaid diagrams at 100%, and download them as PNG - #8
Conversation
The SVG sat in a shrink-to-fit box with Mermaid's inline max-width, so 100% meant the diagram's natural (small) size. Stretch the SVG to fill the viewer and lift the inline max-width so its viewBox scales the drawing to fit. 📝 Walkthrough
Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to PNG downloads may fail in Safari for diagrams that enable HTML labels in their configuration. Make the export setting authoritative before merging, or accept this bounded risk. Pre-merge checks |

The diagram's download button opens a menu with Image (.png) and Vector (.svg). The PNG is rendered at 2x on the diagram's page color, with Mermaid labels as SVG text (foreignObject taints the canvas in Safari) and Hanken Grotesk embedded so the text matches the preview. Before: expanding a Mermaid diagram opened the full-screen viewer with the diagram drawn tiny in the middle at 100%. The download button only saved an SVG.
After: at 100% the diagram is scaled to fill the viewer (keeping its aspect ratio), and zoom/reset work from there. The download button opens a menu with Image (.png) and Vector (.svg).
How:
width="100%"plus an inlinemax-widthat its natural size, so it rendered at (or below) that size. The wrapper is now an absolutely positioned box filling the viewer (symmetric insets clear the close button and zoom bar and keep zoom-around-pointer centred), the SVG issize-full, and the inlinemax-widthis overridden. The viewBox (preserveAspectRatiomeet) does the fitting for any diagram and viewport.diagram/png.tsrasterizes the SVG at 2x on the diagram's page colour. The PNG is rendered from a variant withhtmlLabels: false(SVG text instead offoreignObject, which taints the canvas in Safari), and Hanken Grotesk is embedded as a data URL so the text matches the preview.renderMermaidtakes the option and includes it in its cache key.Checked with
pnpm checkand in the dev server with Playwright: the flowchart fills the viewer at 100%, and both a flowchart and a sequence diagram download as PNGs with the right font.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
