Phalcon is a full-stack PHP framework built for performance and low resource consumption. Founded in 2012, it has a small but dedicated community, and people and organizations around the world depend on it for their projects.

Phalcon ships in two flavors:

• Phalcon 5 - the classic C extension, written in Zephir, a language we created with PHP-style syntax that compiles to a PHP extension. Actively maintained; current release is v5.20.x.
• Phalcon 6 - a pure PHP implementation of the same framework, installable with Composer, requiring PHP 8.1+. Currently in beta. No compiler, no extension, same API.

💖 Team

Phalcon is maintained by a small core team (Anton and Nikos) in their free time, together with a community that reports bugs, sends pull requests, and suggests features every day.

🔭 Mission

Make Phalcon one of the go-to PHP frameworks: feature-rich, fast, and light on resources. Right now that means:

• keeping v5 stable and compatible with current PHP releases,
• bringing v6 to a stable release,
• keeping the documentation and developer tools current for both.

💸 How funds are used

Sponsorship money goes toward:

• Developer time on Phalcon, Zephir, and the surrounding tooling (developer tools, migrations, sample applications).
• Infrastructure — CI, hosting, and domains for the website, docs, and blog.
• Tools and subscriptions the team relies on, such as IDEs, AI-assisted coding tools, and other online services.
• Hardware — occasional workstation upgrades for the core team, since building and testing a C extension across many PHP versions is demanding.

Sustained development time. Our target is $1,000/month, enough to fund a developer for one or two days a week on Phalcon. Every additional dollar buys more of that time; a steady stream large enough for a full-time developer would transform the project.
