Usage offers a rolling Past 24h window, but no current-calendar-day preset. Past 24h includes yesterday's activity, so it does not answer “How much have I used today, since midnight?”
Proposal
mod+shift+1Today,2Past 24h,37 days,430 days,590 days. This intentionally changes the existing period shortcut defaults and needs approval too.The smallest implementation uses the existing daily aggregation for Today; an hourly chart is not required for the requested totals. No new provider integration or usage API is needed.
Existing work
Earlier PR #12076 proposed the same Today preset with hourly buckets. It was closed with a request for test results and before/after UI captures, not merged. I am not treating that feedback as product approval.
I have a reference implementation in my fork. Focused tests cover timezone/calendar-day boundaries, DST days, preference persistence, refresh after midnight, both web period controls, and shortcut order. Scoped typechecks and lint pass. Browser/native visual verification and before/after captures have not been done; those would be needed for an upstream PR.
Decision requested
Would you accept a Today preset with this scope, including the shortcut renumbering? If so, I can prepare a focused PR with the observed test commands/results and the required UI evidence. This discussion asks for direction and scope first, per CONTRIBUTING.md.
