find_files but allow jumping to other directories

Let's say that I have configured find_files to use a cwd matching the current file's directory.

Is it possible to configure Telescope to:

• change directory to ${HOME} if the first character pressed is ~?
• change directory to / (root) if the first character pressed is /?

This is the default behaviour for helm-find-files in emacs, and is something I'd really like to replicate if possible
