The problem is that getting started with this app is confusing, and there doesn't seem to be a "get started" guide that shows what to do.

Describe the solution you'd like
Preferably, a step-by-step guide that covers what to do to set up the app, without needing specialized technical knowledge.

Describe alternatives you've considered
I guess, having it just work "out of the box" with some sensible defaults, but that might not be feasible for a number of reasons.

For example, I couldn't find anything answering what to put in this field:

I have some URLs of public instances (inv.nadeko.net), but those don't seem to be what it wants?

Your approach is correct, it needs the url of an instance but most public instances do not accept third party apps that need API access like clipious.

What is the solution as I am also not getting option to select Public Server as mentioned in the instructions

The only solution now is to host your own invidious server or find public servers that allow API usage but those seen rare which is why I recently removed the list of public servers in a recent update

So if I am an average Joe (full time job, kids) without hacker skills or a ton of time on my hands, I can't use this app? Because average Joe is not going to self-host anything
