What is wrong or unclear in the current documentation?
Filename format for the real-time netCDF files is not clear:
- GDAC documentation does not use the _rt suffix before the .nc
- IOOS Profiling Gliders documentation uses _rt suffix before the .nc
Link or path to the documentation
https://github.com/IOOSProfilingGliders/Real-Time-File-Format/wiki/Real-Time-File-Description#file_naming
How will this improve your workflow?
Resolving a discrepancy in the documentation ensures users are not given conflicting directions.
How should the documentation be improved?
Use the GDAC file naming convention for real-time netCDF files.
Provide a description or any other important information.
user-gdac exchange:
USER: From the file submission checklist, I see that the filename format for the real-time netCDF files uploaded has been changed, dropping the _rt suffix before the .nc. Are we expected to rename all files for all previous real-time deployments?
GDAC: The GDAC wiki was used to generate the checklist. What reference are you using?
USER: I was referencing this file https://github.com/ioos/glider-dac/blob/gh-pages/_docs/user_guide/user_file_submission_checklist.md, which says the File name follows convention: Real-time: glider_yyyymmddTHHMMSSZ.nc.
I navigated there after Sarina sent an email with a link to:
https://github.com/ioos/glider-dac/blob/gh-pages/_docs/user_guide/user_deployment_folder_checklist.md
But on the Github pages about netCDF file formatting, https://github.com/IOOSProfilingGliders/Real-Time-File-Format/wiki/Real-Time-File-Description#file_naming, it says you should have _rt# or _delayed# where the # indicates 0 when the data has no QC or 1 if the data does have QC. In the past though, the format just said to use _rt as a suffix before the .nc for real-time and did not describe a QC number qualifier, so all of my real-time uploads have the _rt suffix.
