Hall effect sensor thumbsticks

I wanted to ask whether it is possible to replace the original two axis thumbsticks with hall effect thumbsticks, or if it requires additional changes in the firmware/pcb?

If additional changes are required, is it possible to expect those changes to be made in the future?

while the current analog stick essentially consists of two potentiometers, Hall-effect thumbsticks work on a different principle (change of voltage in a varying magnetic field). As a result, it's not as trivial as a drop-in replacements, but would also require some re-design of the PCB, as well as the firmware.
