Welcome to the GEISA Specification Discussions!

[mtgstuber]

The GEISA community has enabled discussions on our specification to allow folks reviewing the specification or developing an implementation to provide feedback. If you have questions or thoughts, feel free to post here.

Note

The current specification materials in the repository are an unreleased draft under active development by the GEISA team.

Hi,
The Geisa spec mentions IEC 62433 in the security section, but IEC 62433 is not a security standard, it’s an EM standard.
However, IEC 62443 is a security standard.

Could this be a typo?
thanks,
DN

[mtgstuber]

DN, where are you seeing the 62433 reference? I've checked our Wiki page and the main specification, and I can't find an incorrect reference. Are you seeing it one of the other GEISA repos?

[dadanemi]

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong spec. In addition to this Git repository, my colleague sent me this link: https://lists.lfenergy.org/g/geisa-discussion/attachment/49/0/geisaspecification.pdf because I was too lazy to generate the document.

In this PDF (Release 0.1.3-803a0c8-dirty, Jul 15, 2025) it's on page 46, Chapter 19, the second bullet of the 2nd paragraph:

Security is fundamental to the GEISA specification, so much so that it is included in the name itself: Grid Edge
Interoperability and Security Allicance.
The following are the minimum criteria needed success of the GEISA specification and for the implmeentor.
• Clear expections must be illustrated outlining what responsibilities fall to the GEISA team vs the entities or
individuals implementing the specification. This will be ferred to as the “Shared Responsiblity Model”.
• The specification must affort an implementor the ability(ies) to comply with applicable standards, frameworks,
certifications, etc. such as IEC 62433 without an undue amount of overhead.

thanks for the quick reply!

Hi Daniel, the latest PDF specification can be obtained on this page, with the GitHub hosting the latest changes. The security section has been expanded significantly since 0.1.3 which was one of the very first drafts of the specification. There has been many updates in the spec since the latest 0.1.8 but the team is working hard to generate a 0.9 for review.

[mtgstuber]

Hi Daniel,
Ahh. That makes sense. That's a pretty old version of the specification. The latest published version is 1.8. We're working on having a live version of the specification automatically generated in the future, but we don't have that yet. In the meantime, from time-to-time, we publish PDF builds of the specification on our Wiki here: https://lf-energy.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/GEISA/pages/404422657/Specification+Draft
There have been a lot of improvements made to the security section in particular. The latest is on the github, but hasn't been pushed to the Wiki yet.

Thanks much!
