All covered IDEs are VS Code forks, and their shared telemetry IDs (telemetry.machineId, .sqmId, .devDeviceId, .macMachineId) derive from the same Windows registry source at first launch. Reset one app but not the others, and the freshly reset editor still sits next to siblings that kept the old identifiers — that cross-IDE correlation trail is exactly what links you back.

That's why GHOST resets each app explicitly (every resetter ships its own script with per-app extras like auth secrets and device-flow stores), and why change_device_id.ps1 exists as a separate, optional, machine-wide step when you want the underlying Windows identifiers rotated too.
