Build instructions?

I'd like to build Arduino Studio from scratch -- making use of libs I've already got installed, etc -- but can't figure out how.

It'd be great to have a section in the README.md with build instructions, at least for Linux/Mac where people are likely to want to build Studio from scratch.

sure, this section still misses, and at the moment is a little bit tricky because there are some manual operations :( In the future all (or some) of these operations will be automated.

Before start building you need to know...

• That Arduino Studio is based on Brackets editor...

and in the meanwhile I suggest you to have a look at brackets guidelines to understand how to build. Replace Brackets with ArduinoStudio and Brackets Shell with the arduino-org/brackets-shell

• That in this moment Arduino Studio is composed of two main parts...

The application itself and arduino studio brackets extension which do the dirty job (compile, upload etc...). These in the future will be merged together for a better integration and to allow people to develop plugin using arduino studio api core (see Arduino Studio dev branch), but this is another topic :) Toolchains and other executables are not included in the repo of arduino studio brackets extension. You can obtain them by downloading manually arduino studio brackets extensions (for your platform). Tools are inside the hardware/tool folder

Summarizing....

• Put the Tools inside the hardware/tools folder of arduino studio brackets extensions
• Copy or move arduino studio brackets extensions inside the src/extensions/default ArduinoStudio
• Grunt Arduino Studio (as explained in the Brackets wiki)
• Grunt Arduino Studio Brackets Shell (as explained in the Brackets wiki)

Hello Elliot,

as Sergio said, since our IDE is based on Adobe Brackets, the building guidelines resemble its ones except for one missing piece which is the Arduino Brackets extension which is easily built by means of this script. Once built, it has to be extracted in the :

${APP_FOLDER}/www/extensions/default

folder of Brackets itself. I'll soon edit the wiki to write an exhaustive build guide starting from scratch....
