For reference, onUI is a free, open-source browser extension that implements a similar annotation model - click-to-annotate on page elements, freehand draw mode, and per-annotation metadata. Its approach to linking annotations to specific elements might be useful as a design reference.

Thanks for the reference to onUI. Unfortunately, at SSA we can't use browser extensions--although I will take a look at the underlying code to see if I can incorporate something similar with Genesys itself.
