Add support for the episode table

The episode table has been added to OMOP CDM v5.4, released back in 2021, but Atlas 2.x has never supported it. This hinders the adoption of the episode table. Therefore we would like to make sure support is on the roadmap for Atlas 3.

The minimal implementation would be to add the ability to select episode table as criteria in a cohort definition. With the ability to add attributes for:

• Episode concept
• First Episode
• Age at episode
• Gender
• Episode object concept
• Start date
• End date
• Episode type

Thanks for raising this, and agreed the gap is real.

For 3.0 we are holding scope to feature parity with Atlas 2.x plus the architectural rework, so no new criteria types are going in this release. That said, this looks like a good candidate for 3.1, and it has my support.

That is fair. There are some more, less prominent, gaps as well. And we will have a few additional fields in CDM v5.5. Would love to brainstorm some time to prioritise these for implementation in Atlas Cohort Design.

This was something we've been asked to include as part of Atlas3, however I think the path forward will be:

1. Add this field to the Circe Object model over at OHDSI/Circe-be
2. Announce this to downstream consumers (like CirceR, and CapeR and Atlas)

So, while we can put this asside for the core 3.0 release, I think we could quickly introduce this in a 3.1 release (along with feature gaps and anything else we want to fix in the first few weeks following the 3.0). we can also see if this is a high risk change and possibly call it in.

If it is, I'll take on the accountability for it and ensure it is not going to hinder our delivery schedule for Atlas3.
