Google Photos no longer working

Due to https://developers.google.com/photos/support/updates, Google Photos no longer provides the API that ePiframe currently uses to access photos.

I'm working on it, but it's very difficult due to the drastic changes to the Google Photos API. Now applications, i.e. code like ePiframe, can only see the albums and photos they created, not all of photos in Google Photos. The only thing I can do is create a script that will upload photos to a new album pretending to be ePiframe, and then the frame will have access to them. Ehhhhhh, Google why?

Thanks for the reply. From what I understand, the Photo Picker API could also be used to have the user select an album once, and then have ePiframe get images from that album. But I haven't verified this.

I also wonder if it would be possible to access a shared album without Google login, e.g. scrape it like a website through its sharing URL.

Other projects (one example that I'm aware of: rclone) seem to have hit the same issue in the meantime, it may be worth looking into how they are solving it.

I did some research, and unfortunately, the Photo Picker API isn't suitable for what we'd like to do, as it requires interaction every time we launch or download photos. I also tried to explore photo scraping, but unfortunately, Google Photos doesn't allow for that; only Google Images did I manage to figure it out. As for rclone, it also works the way I wanted it to – it must first upload photos to an album it creates, and only then can it access them.

Unfortunately, my initial idea is the best so far, and I'm still working on it. Thanks for the suggestions – they were very good and helpful.

Google Photos albums can be shared in a "link only" mode and the resulting website can be opened without a Google account. It should be possible to scrape such shared albums from ePiframe. Would this not be an acceptable workaround?

Edit: sorry, I know scraping has been discussed before, but I don't see why this would not work.
