What makes your requested software better than the above solutions, if available?

• supports multiple variants of input sources for webcam including rtsp, directly connected cameras, etc.

How can DietPi make the installation easier or compatible, than following the install instructions or do APT installation, if available?

• adding a service file to run go2rtc automatically

Can you provide the installation steps that you would suggest DietPi-Software to do?

1. download the latest go2rtc binary
2. make binary executable
3. create go2rtc service file and enable it (example service file: https://gist.github.com/jneilliii/b33abcbec118d390b105b63bc9fb52df)

Are you willing to help maintaining the software installation, e.g. in case of needed setup changes due to updates etc.? This is not needed, but could speed up our decision to implement it, as man power is always a topic 😉.

Looks great! Closest to a replacement for the aging and unmaintained mjpg-streamer + web UI. I was already wondering about an altarnative simple camera streamer, since I have no capacity to take over mjpg-streamer maintenance, to enable libcamera support and such (enabled in another also unmaintained fork).

go2rtc does not natively support libcamera either, but thanks to its custom command support, it can work: https://github.com/AlexxIT/go2rtc/blob/master/internal/exec/README.md

Yeah, configuration can get tricky, but because of the popularity of this project in the Home Assistant community it has lots of helpful tips in the wild. I use it for my Bambu X1C's built-in camera and have tested direct connected cameras with my Windows OctoPrint installer. It's very flexible.

When I had tested this before with pi cam this was the setting I used. You'd have to adjust for modern-day app names since libcamera-vid, etc. was changed.
