2. EO Project 1: Bible Chatbot

As EO we have a license to use the popular Dutch translation ‘NBV 2004’ as a basis for our website https://bijbel.eo.nl/, which contains a lot of extra background content from a ‘Youthbible’ project we did years ago.

The website is built in Laravel, with ElasticSearch as backend and using React in the frontend. It also has a REST API that can be used to get specific verses from the database.

For the hackathon, we would like to invite you to implement a Conversational Interface (chatbot) to this API, that allows for the following functionalities:

  • Integrate with Facebook Messenger
  • Search for a keyword in the Bible
  • Retrieve single verses from the Bible
  • Get a random Bible-verse
  • Get a daily bible-verse, could be integrated with the OneSignal API we currently use for push-notifications to the webbrowser.
  • ... plus anything else you would like to add to bot! ...

Using Laravel for this would be ideal, since this could then be easily integrated in the current code. But using Cloud-tools for a POC is fine too.

3. EO Project 2: The Passion AR

Every year, The Passion TV broadcast on the Thursday before Easter is becoming more and more integrated with online interaction. We have successfully launched different web-based tools that allow people to participate with a ‘online procession’ of the cross that has a central place in the TV broadcast.

In 2018 we would like to bring this even further: we would like to investigate if an AR-app could be developed that allows you to place the virtual cross in your own neighborhood. What if we could light up the entire country, with a cross in every street, square and market?

The AR-toolkit for iOS 11 is relatively new, and the challenge would be as follows:

  • Can you create an app where the cross is being placed in a public square or street?
  • Is it possible to easily capture this (as a video or photo) and upload it to social media?
  • Are there ways to interact with the cross? Can you for instance ‘follow’ it, can you take a selfie, etc.

Since we don’t have any AR-experience yet, this POC would help us enormously in deciding if a full-fledged AR-app for The Passion 2018 is feasible.

4. EO Project 3: Take Your Place

This is not formally an EO-challenge, but it was pitched by one of the EO web developers who is building this in his spare time.

As prayer- and worship leader of a small church in Almere (NL) I found that motivating people for intercession/prayer for our city is a hard one. In 2016 we started off with “takeyourplace.nl” as a motivational and encouraging platform for intercessors in our city to connect. As an experiment, we came up with the idea to connect to the available open data that were made available by the local government. And so we claimed all public furniture (benches) as “places of prayer” where intercessors can pray, meet and proclaim the Kingdom. To visualise the impact users may journal their activity which will be shown on a timeline and a (public) map.

Despite the fact our congregation was enthusiast, the motivation to keep on praying didn’t last long. We’ve used it for a few months, but it clearly isn’t intuitive/motivational enough to keep them involved.

But this idea has potential to grow and could have more impact. At the hackathon we could improve the project in a few ways:

  • To reach a larger community and connect (inter?)national intercessors , it probably would be a better idea to make the platform independent from open data, so it can easily be used/implemented for cities that don’t provide these kinds of (open)data;
  • Implement motivational “gameplay” (sorry for the word, I couldn’t think of a better one) by using gamification aspects such as egg “rewards”, unlock certain features (eg. statistics, administrative rights etc) , In such a way that the platform keeps it’s serious purpose and spiritual attitude, and increases involvement and impact;
  • Localized/personalised (email)-notifications;
  • Connect people to collaborate, encourage and support each other in some way;
  • Improving UX;

Platform specs:

  • PHP, Laravel, HTML5, javascript, redis, bootstrap (for now)

5. Jesus.net Project 1: Christelijke Mindfulness app

  • KnowingGod concept: ikzoekgod.nl of connaitredieu.com
  • Codex elearning concept: cursus.ikzoekgod.nl of codex.training
  • MyStory concept, persoonlijke verhalen: mystory.me
  • LikeJesus app: iOS en Android LikeJesus
  • Vluchtelingen project: Love Europe app
