Definition

From the Moving Image Cataloguing Manual pg. 41:

An Agent is defined as an entity that is involved in the creation, realisation, curation or exploitation of a Work/Variant and who is considered to have major responsibility for, or be of major importance to, the Work/Variant.

From the Moving Image Cataloguing Manual pg. 62:

An Agent for moving image Manifestations is defined as an entity that is involved in the exploitation (release, distribution, broadcasting), publishing, manufacturing or preservation of a Manifestation and who is considered to have major responsibility for, or be of major importance to, the Manifestation.

From the Moving Image Cataloguing Manual pg. 79:

An Agent for moving image Items is defined as an entity that is involved in the acquisition, movement (for loans, inspection, storage, etc.), or preservation of a moving image Item and who is considered to have major responsibility for, or be of major importance to, the moving image Item.

Recommendation

As evidenced by BA dataset, distinction of "Person" and "Organisation" are already quite common. Discuss the merits of inclusion of additional terms, "Person Group" (e.g. "The Beatles"?) and "Family" (e.g. "The Safdie Brothers"?).

@stephenmcconnachie I wasn't able to find this attribute in the BFI dataset and just wanted to check if it exists and not exported, or is inferred by role (i.e. "Production Company" = Organisation, "Cinematographer" = Person)?

We have a party class attribute in the linked person/organisation record - wih the values person, organisation, animal. For future data supply we could inlcude that linked record attribute, but for now it could be inferred fromcredit.type as you've described. If it would help, I could provide a dictionary of credit.type and person / organisation?

"Animal", that is incredible! For now I can just use the parent class of Agent, and look at adding it during a future data export.
