Support for GEF cpt files?

Congrats with another nice package!

I see the brodata package can read CPT files in the form of XML files.
Do you have plans to implement reading of CPT in GEF format as well?

I don't think we need to develop that from scratch. It could also be an option to make use of existing CPT readers around, e.g.:

• PyGEF from CEMS
• GeoST from Deltares

No current plans for reading (or generating) GEF-data. How do you download gef-files for cpts? From BRO or DINO?

When I go to broloket I just see xml-files from Geotechnisch sondeeronderzoek (BRO).

The use case that I have in mind is mainly in construction projects, where the CPT companies are used to provide GEF files, but not always include XML files. And also a lot of legacy GEF files from old projects.

For boreholes from DINOloket, you can download a GEF-file. See borehole B24F0008 for example:

However, I do not think this GEF-file contains more information than the regular CSV-file. Therefore, I do not think we will support it in brodata. As mentioned in the first comment of this issue, there are other tools to handle GEF-data.

There is no discussion page for the brodata package so I'll post it here, I hope this is ok.

First of all, this package has great options for retrieving and plotting, but is now limited to BRO and DINO as sources. This makes it difficult in projects when there is also extra info available in e.g. GEF files.

What do other people use to manage subsurface data from multiple sources?

PyGEF can read GEF files for both CPT and borehole descriptions but misses functionalities such as lithology_along_line, which is pretty useful. And not downloading all data from bro or dino manually is also nice.

I am not in favor of supporting a lot of other data sources, as this is hard to maintain, and indeed there are other packages that can be used. However, maybe we can make the plot methods like lithology_along_line more versatile, so it is easier to plot data from other sources as well?
